Its called The Maple Leaf, on Maiden Lane by Covent Garden. Serves Canadian beer, food and NFL/NHL games. Down the road is the Commonwealth food store stocking all variety of unhealthy snacks from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

If you know where to drink, eat and go out, London isn't really any worse than any other big city. I've been ripped off far worse in small provincial towns than in London.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

That will actually require some effort, according to my London experience dating back some 5 years.. 2 of my friends wanted to watch Hockey World Championship which were on during our visit, but we could not find a pub that would had any idea of them besides laughing at their request (i don't anything more boring than watching sports from telly.. well maybe watching sports live..).

I was replying to someone who was encouraging a more permanent move.

I don't know the details yet. Work will be Canary Wharf.
Canary Wharf is a soul-less, corporate ****hole with all the history bulldozed to make way for thrusting, penile towerblocks inscribed with the names of banks, and populated by dull corporate drones with massive salaries. You'll love it.

You can also go round to Drogue's for tea. He is your favourite moderator after all, on the grounds that he never does anything, including posting on here.

And if you should decide to venture into the real centre of London to meet us lot you can quietly sip a diet coke or two and watch in horror as the barbaric beer-swilling Polylondonites talk bollox, act stupid, and take the piss out of anything that moves. A bit like this place, in fact. Then you can witness the ancient art of staggering off into the night in search of a kebab, and when you eventually return home into the arms of your beloved you can say that you have truly lived.

Seriously though, I don't see why you're getting your thong in a wad about the finances. If your accommodation is being paid for, and you're getting a food allowance, what is there to worry about? Taxis are horribly expensive, but as long as you keep your head down, scowl a lot, don't make eye-contact with anyone and mutter "sorry, mate" to anyone who tries to stop you for anything, you'll be fine on public transport.

You might even learn to love football. After all, it's basically hockey without the sticks, ice, and endless violence.

                      This is not actually true.

Firstly, it is spelt wrong, and secondly it is geographically located a few miles to the east of the centre. Transport links are ok, but 'very well located' should be reserved for the City, West End, and the very best central bit of all, Holborn, between the two.

Yes, for some odd reason I missed the 'h', so what???

And I find it incredibly absurd for you to say that Canary Wharf is a few miles to the east of the centre and still consider the West End central. I already worked in the West End, and coming from the South East I can tell you that the West End is friggin' NOT central! Could be worse? Oh yes, but if it's outside the square mile, then I find Canary Wharf to be very well located.

Don't forget he's only thinking about himself - heaven forgive he would think about the rest of the commuting population...

I find the whole post of his rather snobby/elitist when it comes to CW - I bet Cort only enters London postcodes with an 'E' in under extreme protest and would most likely quarantine everything south of the river if he could...

Also, it is not soulless - it is merely modern and far less annoying, dirty and crowded than the city. Not to mention the fact that it was developed by Canadians, so Asher will feel at right at home there.

In fact, The City only bucked up its ideas when CW started living up to its potential...

And the West End, what a ****ing hell hole to work in - gaaaah!

To me, the perfect life in London would be living in Greenwich and working in CW - I almost achieved that personal nirvana as New Cross is only down the road from Greenwich...

                          Shut it Provost!
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

And living and working in Cardiff is infinitely preferable to any scenario involving having to live/work in London...

Yeah, I'd like to live in Greenwich myself if I had the chance. Not New Cross but Greenwich...Hell no, not New Cross, unless I want to be shot or something I bet you're going to start euphemistically referring to it as "Blackheath West" or something next

And yeah, I don't think I'd have an objection to working in Docklands but I don't think I'd want to live there...as you say yourself, hop across the water to Greenwich or Blackheath.

LOL, the funny thing is MOBIUS is that I remember you constantly encouraging me to move to London, and then when I did you moved to bleeding back of beyond Wales
