Not really, no. There's a good bit of tolerance left for displays of anything Nazi-related when it's done for the 'right reasons'.

Presumably this is why there was a sign next to the wax Hitler that nobody should use 'him' for pictures. Having watched the behaviour of tourists at various museums, I don't question at all it wouldn't have been a week before the first jackass wanted a picture of himself and the Führer to take home.

You don't read German tabloids, I suppose. But I do, not that I'm proud of it, and prior to the beheading, Bild and BZ took this up, I think both had the imitation Hitler on the front page.

Both would like to have Hitler in front of their country.

Nah, let's not go overboard. Bild seems quite happy about both Chancellor Merkel and Vice-Chancellor... what was his name? Schweinsteiger!

(Edit: No - 'Schweini', was it.)

(Edit 2: What a horrible nickname.)

Nah, didn't read that. But interestingly just right after this there's surfacing a bit more of this 'debate' elsewhere too. But it's kinda ridiculous.

And you need to stop speaking foreign too

I was in Berlin earlier this week and saw it arrive actually. The press coverage was pretty intensive and (at least from my command of German) it claimed they were taking extreme precautions to stop people (a) taking their picture with the statue and (b) beheading it.

Looks like the safeguards were circumvented pretty quickly.

It's Hitler's famous tantrum in the movie "Der Untergang", when he learned, that Steiner's SS Panzerkorps was unable to break the siege of Berlin from the north:

All leave the room except: Keitel, Jodl, Krebs and Burgdorf.

THIS WAS AN ORRRRDERRRR! Steiner's offensive was an orrrrderrrr! Who are you, that you dare to defy my orrrrderrrrs? ... (etc.)

                                It's a quite amusing sequence.
