WEATHERFORD — A man was sentenced to more than 4,000 years in prison today for sexually assaulting three teenage girls over two years.

A day after finding James Kevin Pope guilty, jurors sentenced him to 40 life prison terms — one for each sex assault conviction — and 20 years for each of the three sexual performance of a child convictions.

At the request of prosecutors, state District Judge Graham Quisenberry ordered Mr. Pope to serve the sentences consecutively, adding up to 4,060 years. He will be eligible for parole in the year 3209, according to the Parker County District Attorney's Office.

“We believe it was a just result,” prosecutor Robert DuBoise said, adding that he was “overwhelmed” with the judge's decision to stack the sentences.

Mr. Pope, 43, of Springtown, abused the girls for nearly two years, and it came to authorities' attention earlier this year after Mr. Pope made several inappropriate comments to a friend who notified Child Protective Service.

During the trial, the teens testified about the abuse, and their sexually explicit photographs were shown as evidence.

But Rick Alley, Mr. Pope's defense lawyer, told jurors in closing arguments that the victims were incapable of understanding what happened, the Weatherford Democrat reported in its Wednesday online edition.

“If it was as traumatic as they indicate, they would be able to give you (specific dates and times of the incidents). Simply because it's shocking doesn't make it true,” Alley said.

During the sentencing phase of the trial, a U.S. Secret Service agent testified that while examining Mr. Pope's home computer he found more than 200 images of child porn.

Later today, some jurors said the case was difficult because of the subject matter.

“We were careful not to make any mistakes in viewing and evaluating the evidence and taking in the totality of the case and that there was a man's life at stake here,” said juror Dale Lewis.

        Meanwhile in Germany:

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German court sentenced a pair of middle-aged men to more than 12 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually abusing and torturing two young women they held captive for several weeks -- part of the time in a dog kennel.

The ordeal ended when a third woman taken hostage by the two German men managed to escape her captors and alert police, the court in the northern town of Verden said.

In addition to jail sentences, the court ordered the accused, identified as Stephan K., 42, and Bernd K., 55, to pay damages of 150,000 euros ($237,000) to each of the two women, while the third woman was awarded 5,000 euros.

The abuse of the women, who were aged between 18 and 23 at the time, began when the eldest was captured in August 2006 after she followed up a fake job advert posted by the men. Four weeks later, the men abducted the second woman the same way.

During their captivity at a two-storey house in Garlstedt near Bremen, the two women were repeatedly raped, a spokeswoman for the court said.

They were also locked in a kennel, made to crawl around on all fours on a leash, eat from a dog bowl and subjected to blasts of deafening music, she added.

The men, who filmed some of the abuse, also forced one of the women to prostitute herself, or face violent reprisals.

"The court concluded that the men who came for sex were unaware of the circumstances," the spokeswoman said.

In mid-October, the men bound and gagged their third victim, but she escaped handcuffed and naked through an upstairs window, and alerted police with the help of a passing jogger.

Afterwards, the two men fled, each taking one of the remaining women by force. Within four days, Bernd K. had turned himself in, the court said. Police captured the younger man with the last captive woman just over a month later.

The older man received a 12-1/2 year sentence, while Stephan K. was handed a 14-year term, to be followed by a potentially indefinite period of preventive detention, the spokeswoman said.

The latter sentence reflected the fact the man had marked sociopathic and sadistic tendencies, she added.

"The court said they were deeply ingrained and would probably be apparent when he was 70," she said.

The 14-month trial of the men, which received considerable attention in local German media, was partly closed to the public due to the disturbing nature of the evidence.

          What are German prisons like?
That gives me an idea, a reality show where a "lifer" spends a given amount of time at various prisons and critiques them, knowing that there's no reason to fake it; in the end he's going back where he started.

Depends on the prison. Some AFAIK are said to be nice places to live.
Others, especially overcrowded ones, might turn the life of the prisoners there into a hell.
One case for the latter was, some years ago, a prison in Siegburg, where at one wekend, during a night from saturday to sunday, 3 occupants over the timespan of maybe 12 hours slowly tortured a fourth one to death. Everything without the wardens noticing anything although getting alarmed by the panic button and even entering the cell once during these hours. (I won´t go into details, as they are too sickening)

All Texas prisons have a heating system, but in the summer only the prison hospital and psychiatric units have air conditioning.

They should tack on another 36 years, for good measure.

Always suspected Texans were full of hot air - and now this includes their convicts too.

How old were the teens? Anything over 14-15 and this is ridiculous, 4000 years? It's not like they can't refuse. Women and feminists and teenage Jonas Brothers whores think that they are not responsible for spreading their legs. NEWSFLASH it takes two to boink

Terrible article. Paragraph 2 makes a very different argument from the bull**** in paragraph 1. Also the ages are not provided of these 'victims.'

And Turberski, now you need to be signed up for a logic class in addition to remedial spelling. Forcible rape and kidnapping has nothing to do with statutory rape, which is what this really is. Big difference.

                              Well, I see two sollutions:
                              1) Make him breed and make his offspring live in prison
                              2) Keep him in after the death. His prison mates may not like this idea, though.
