Yes, but, he did uderstand why. He didn't like strangers much and normally would have never let a stranger to even touch him, no to mention to put needles in his body. But when he was sick (and that was many times during last 15 years) he just let the docs do their job. He was calm and silent as a rock anytime when we were in hospital and docs did injections and other unpleasant things. He knew they are helping him. I'm not kidding. I saw it many times. And actually his behavior in hospital amazed docs. He was the smartest dog ever and lived a long and happy life, but I miss him so much.

I think animals can sense when people are trying to help them, especially when they're very sick. The 16 year old cat I have whose kidneys have failed was the most shy cat I've ever seen, except for me and my family. When the doorbell rang, she bolted and hid under the bet for hours. Whenever we used to go to the vet, she'd cower in the corner and shake.

Like you said, now when we go to the vet she's calm and doesn't fuss. She lets the vet stick things everywhere with just a tiny wimper sometimes.

Every other day we have to stick her with a thick needle to set an IV to give her a subcutaneous injection and have her stand perfectly still for 5 minutes. And she does, without fail.

Similarly, giving her a pill every day...cats generally do NOT like it when you force open their mouth and shove a pill down their throat, but they permit you when they're sick.

                my condolences Serb,

I recently too lost a pet. Cassie, she was 19, had a thyroid problem, arthritis, deafness and was yowling in pain most of the time. She had to be put down, much to my objection. I remember when she used to scratch at my door and hop up on my bed and sleep on me, once even doing so on my chest. So I've known her since I was 5.

I still miss her, her ghost still follows me around

Sorry to hear that, Serb... I am going to lose my childhood dog as well (who doesn't live with me anymore, but with my brother) at 14 and going, he has a tumor (huge lump on his back... quite odd) and was given a month or two to live. Fortunately I was able to see him last week (he's 1500 miles away!!) and he's doing well except for that, which is a good thing
