According to you and some gun happy wacko. But there are a lot of people in the population who have commited crimes like that but live just as morally now as you and everyone else that you consider so morally superior. If someone murders them is that not such a big deal as if they had just gone at shot someone at random?
What is this about moral superiority? I simply said that burglary is a reprehensible activity. I did not say that the criminals who were stealing in this instance were horrible, evil people. They were, however, committing a crime. That does NOT make what this guy did ok. I have specifically stated he was out of line, and what he did is unacceptable. This sidebar began when you said "Too bad that bastard didn't get shot. Maybe next time."

Precisely. The law protects acts undertaken to protect people...but not to protect acts undertaken to protect the property of other. So shooting someone to prevant a rape is a legal defense. Shooting someone in the back after they have committed a burglary is not.

p.s. I have less sympathy than you do for the dead thieves (I do have some, just less than you). That does not mean I support this vigilante ******* and his shotgun wielding ways. Understand?

This was in Texas? There's a shocker.

Guns reduce crime. If Texas had allowed people to carry guns, these guys wouldn't have broken into the property.

But guns sure did a good job at reducing crime here. Not only do we got the burglary, we've also got a couple extra shootings. Don't forget that burglary is a more severe crime than murder or attempted murder or manslaughter.

No, no. I said too bad he didn't get shot, and you said that's too harsh because his victims were commiting a crime. That implies that you believe the victims were inferior to that average person, as you would not have made such a comment if we were talking about a person who just went and shot people on the street at random.

What are you getting at? Z just said there would be a difference if he was protecting people, but he wasn't.

Blah, I'm still here and I see a response. Must... respond.

                  1. I concede that I do see a difference between shooting random people in the street and shooting two thieves in the midst of thieving.

                  2. I was agreeing with Zkrib. What about that did you not understand?

Indeed, though I'm not sure there is much more to say.

I think we need some balancing Texan opinion in all of this.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Not sure about "murderer," but certainly it's manslaughter and this loon should not be allowed to have a gun in the future.
