but it is possible it doesn't require cork, however, it still doesn't effectively explain 17 wounded and that he isn't to blame 99%.
I am sure you have fired on full auto before, in which case you know throwing 17 rounds down range only takes a few seconds (and as has been noted it is doubtful that it was 17 rounds, this was a crowd and given none of the wounds were lethal I would imagine most were hit by bullet fragments/secondary penetrations)

Honestly, if it was full auto and given the rate of fire of a FAMAS (1000 rounds/minute http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=178619 ) he would not have had any time at all to react to a light recoil.

I'm sorry, but if my armorer handed me a magazine I don't automatically assume I must empty the mag and inspect each round (that is his job that he is specifically trained to do), all I do is check the round count to make sure I got what he said he was giving me.

I have, and 17 is still a lot, if it is in fact 17 shots. It's a lot. I don't know if you also get excited, but as I don't, 17 is a lot and it surely is recognizable fast. Unless of course hindered by a massive erection.

How long does it take shoot 17 rounds at 1000 rounds/minute?

And I don't get excited for anything smaller than a .50 cal, once you shoot a 5"/54 cal everything else is childs play

They were using corks on the FAMAS, but maybe this one didn't have one. I remember firing without a cork a blank bullet and it can work.
Ces balles provenaient d'un résidus de tirs d'une opération datant de fin juin. Il n'était pas normal qu'il ait ces balles sur lui. C'est bien pour cela qu'il est en garde à vue.
said the procureur who is in charge of the enquiry. This means:
"The (real) bullets were left-overs from an operation dated end of june. It was not normal that he had these bullets with him. This is why he is kept in custody"

          ( in French: http://www.20minutes.fr/article/2400...mmandement.php )

Beyond the drama and the error of using real bullets, the question one can ask is:
This was an exercise to fight terrorism. If it had been a real situation, there would have been as many, if not more, wounded. Why did they fire a FAMAS instead of using a sniper? That's totally silly. There's one sniper in every infantry section, so there's no reason to send someone with a FAMAS shoot in the middle of a crowd, in real operations. In an demo, that's outright stupid.

What do the French use for their sniper rifle?

If it was an old magazine then I would ask the question of why the armory didn't account for all magazines. If they didn't and this guy purposely kept it then both should fry, if they did and then just didn't unload/reload it then the armory guy needs to go to prison.

1000/60=16.666666... so assuming he fired the full seventeen it was a little over one second. Of course that's also assuming that every one of the live rounds he fired at full auto happened to hit a target in a non-lethal location. Sounds dubious to me, though I have no experience with guns outside of using a .22 rifle (very poorly) at scout camp when I was about twelve. Either people were hit by fragments, he missed a few, or he had some really freaky luck.

If it too 16.6 seconds to fire 17 rounds, that means the FAMAS only has a rate of fire of about 60 rounds/minute, which it doesn't.

You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

? Dude, use your computer's calculator function. Math doesn't lie. 1000 (number of rounds fired per minute) divided by 60 (number of seconds per minute) yields 16 2/3 (number of rounds fired per second).

As Krill stated, since you did not make a distiction I assumed you meant 16.6 seconds to fire 17 rounds since the point I was trying to make was that it would be two fast (1.02sec) to notice and then react to the light recoil.

                                I honestly did miss that

                                I calculated differently, 17(60/1000).

Errr, guys, it was not 17 rounds, it was 17 wounded people!!!!
We know that, but it is the only number given so we are estimating off of it. For all we know he fired 100 rounds and missed altogether with 83 of them.
