This coming from the guy that said he was done with this thread at least 3 or 4 times. HA HA HA.

Just as it is a compliment to get on MOBIUS' list Ben it is a greater compliment to get on Asher's Ignore List.

      I wish you luck.

Shut down the major manufacturers, turn over their fields and plant a food crop instead; tobacco exacts a heavy toll on the soil. Ideally you wouldn't see some POS parents smoking around their kids either.

        • Ontario just made it illegal for anyone to smoke in a vehicle with children in it.

They also made it illegal for stores to display cigarette boxes. If they carry cigarettes, they must be hidden from view.

Look at the UK murder numbers (in the graph here).

More statistics: UK murder rate is 1.1 per 100,000 per year, US murder rate is 5.4 per 100,000 per year. So as you warn about "violent crime increases" in the UK, why don't you do some common sense analysis and look at the difference in scale.
Be careful. The peak there is thanks to Harold Shipman. Those murder rates are also skewed by Chinese cockle pickers, July bombings etc. (The main point still stands, obviously).

Snitch on a black market cigarette dealer and you'll get beaten with a lead pipe, if you're lucky.

Shoving non-violent behavior into the criminal sphere only creates more crime. Instead of having legal remedies for customers who fail to pay, or burglars who steal merchandise, black marketeers are compelled to take matters into their own hands. This results in increased overall levels of violence, and a great deal of harm done to innocent bystanders. Examples include the Volstead Act, and the War on Drugs.

Of course none of this matters to moralizing crusaders who hate individual freedom and liberty.

Opposing industries right to polute the air is liberal though. How do you feel about that?

The politicians are now being tough on crime by talking about banning kitchen knives there, wtg

Are you talking about the increase in violent crimes in which knives are used ?

Exactly how is that meant to be related to gun control laws ?

It's difficult to see how one person could repeat the Dunblane or Hungerford massacres with a bread knife.

Or how Charles Whitman could have picked off people from his tower with a carpet knife.

But then that's a singular difference between a knife and say, a handgun, with chambers for six bullets.

Technically, I'm opposing individuals' right to pollute the air, especially right in other people's faces. And I have some conservative positions too: pro-life, opposed to increased government spending, contemptuous of affirmative action.

You are, quite clearly. You made a rip at my punctuation, then refused to support it. Instead you have now repeatedly made an issue out of a stylistic choice of using "off of" because you clearly cannot find any punctuation issues with the quote in question. "Off of" is what is referred to as a complex preposition. I'm sure you knew that and I'm sure you also knew that while it's not valid in the Queen's English, it's valid and quite common in American/Canadian English.

You are an immense, condescending douchebag about the most trivial of subjects. I hope you take great pride in your excessive snobbery, because that's all you've really got in life.
