  • Bigots and those who are not bigots but use bigoted jokes.

Is there really a difference between the two? I have very little patience with people of any group (minority or dominant) who freely spat out bigoted, demeaning jokes, and then when called on it, they say, "Oh, but I was only JOKING." This would include not only white people who behave this way, but any bigoted person -- a homophobic black man making gross, bigoted jokes of gays, a Jew making anti-Catholic bigoted jokes, a white gay man making bigoted jokes about Hispanics, and so on.

Even if you are joking, it would likely have been tasteless and nothing but a bad reflection of yourself in my view. Do one of the two things -- freely use bigoted jokes but admit that you are a bigot, or stop using bigoted jokes that degrade or dehumanize another group of human beings.

For the record, I disagreed with Spike's distorted viewpoint of Eastwood as well (as discussed in closed thread). But I can find far better ways to express my disagreement with someone of another group/background without relying on the same stereotyping and bigoted jokes that real bigots use.

"I was only joking, even if real bigots use the same jokes" - PULEEZ.

And for the record, I agree that the bashing of white Southerners on here sometimes gets out of hand as well. Some of the stereotyping of white Southerners on here is just grossly unfair.

I don't like bigoted jokes. I think it's worse when the teller hasn't even got the balls to just out with it. The disclaimer makes it a lie, on top of it all.

To not like, which again I say is the source of the telling, any complete group of people is about as stupid as one can get. It's as varied as you stated. Muslims. To say that every Muslim in the world is a terrorist isn't always said as a joke, but telling a joke or making a generalized comment is stupid, not ignorant. Nothing is wrong with being ignorant. Ignorance is not knowing. No one but God and Mobius know all. (Please forgive me, God. I know You really appreciate that analogy.)

      That includes white Southerner jokes.

And it's good to see that you haven't left Apolyton, Slowwy.

          Well, thanks.
I just remembered something, though. Short people. They got no reason to live.

We can make fun of white southerners because white southerners invite it with the way they are.

See, that's obviously not a southerner because even though it looks like a mentally retarded midget simply because he is nicely dressed.

I subscribe to the Carlos Mencia guideline of joke telling (paraphrasing): If you can't tell the joke to the people that are the subject of that joke, then you should never tell that joke, ever.

That's why I only made fun of Texans (Slowwhand) and old people (Ming and rah). They all kicked my ass in Civ2 MP though.
