Oh, of court the issue of principle vs. practicality is out there. I think we should allow expansive free speech on principle. I think it is base for all freedoms of the individual.

It's also the basis of evil. It's not what you say. It's what you believe that makes you free, or binds you in chains.

Having the right to say what you believe; however, is the essense of a free society. I mean, you can believe whatever you wish even in the most authoritarian regimes, but being able to articulate it in public (or private) is what makes a people free.

If everyone believes the truth, people don't need to go around saying it. Of course, you can always break the law you know. Speech has even more power when it is illegel. The real power is in the knowing.

"the truth"? What is "the truth"? Is there such a thing?

And how does one know without people saying it? Without revealing things? In places without free speech people don't know what is going on. If the Bush Administration was a dictatorship would we even know half of what has gone on behind the scenes?

Yes, there certainly is such a thing as the truth. Is this the benefit of free speech, that we don't know if truth is an actual thing or not?

If the Bush administration was a dictatorship we would know that it was a dictatorship. Contrast that with the fact that most people in this country think that we live in a democracy.

There are different version of the truth (cue "Rashomon" here), and what is right and what isn't is subject to perception and pre-concieved biases, but I'm not sure they add up to any one "truth".

We would only know it was a dictatorship, but we wouldn't know what he was doing behind the scenes. You think the North Koreans really know what their leader is doing?

Errr... No there's one truth and a lot of bull****. People believe and repeat the bull**** because free speech is generally cheap speech. The cheapest speech (most repeated) is the speech that people end up believing in a free speech society. This has been shown to be true repeatedly.

No, there are different perceptions of what the truth actually is but no one will really know the entire truth.

And I'm sure in non free speech societies people don't end up believing the most repeated speech .

People have no idea what goes on behind the scenes in this country.
I can guarantee you they know more than the North Koreans know about theirs.

Sure there are different perceptions, but as for the actual truth there is only one. Perceptions are not truth, not even in the slightest degree.

That's not a very high standard, but I wouldn't be sure.

And what is "the truth"; how do we know it? And does the world exist outside of our perceptions ("if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around, does it make a sound?" ? If there are different perceptions about an event how is one know what the "one truth" is to the matter? Is it ever possible to know? If it is never possible to know the "one truth", how can we be sure of its existance?

                            I wouldn't be sure

                            Then you are nuts.

Here is the guy that should be our first black president****

We should have a nationwide push to write him in for our next president *****

'They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk:
                              Why you ain't,
                              Where you is,
                              What he drive,
                              Where he stay,
                              Where he work,
                              Who you be...

And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English
except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.

In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what??

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.
I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2??

Where were you when he was 12??

Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol??

And where is the father?? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from??

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa .

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

We cannot blame the white people any longer.'

Dr.. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby, Jr., Ed.D.

                              WAY TO GO, BILL !!

                              It's NOT about color..
                              It's about behavior!!!
