    MSNBC

MOSCOW - Communists in St. Petersburg on Friday condemned the new Indiana Jones' film as crude anti-Soviet propaganda that distorted history and called for it to be banned from Russian screens.

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" stars Harrison Ford as an archeologist in 1957 competing with an evil KGB agent, played by Cate Blanchett, to find a skull endowed with mystic powers.

"What galls is how together with America we defeated Hitler, and how we sympathized when bin Laden hit them. But they go ahead and scare kids with Communists. These people have no shame," said Viktor Perov, a Communist party member in Russia's second city.

The comments were made at a meeting of the local Communist party and posted on its Internet site www.kplo.ru.

"Our women don't look like Nazis, but maybe Cate Blanchett was threatened by unemployment, so ... she made this film," Perov said.

The film, the fourth in the hugely successful Indiana Jones series, went on release in Russian cinemas on Thursday. Russian media said it was being shown on 808 screens, the widest ever release for a Hollywood movie.

"Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett (are) second-rate actors, serving as the running dogs of the CIA. We need to deprive these people of the right of entering the country," said another party member, Andrei Gindos.

"The film is low-quality and would raise a smile if there wasn't a danger of drawing into its orbit teenagers who know nothing about the 1950s," Vladimir Mukhin, another member, said in comments on the Internet site.

Mukhin said he would ask the Culture Ministry to ban the film for its "anti-Soviet propaganda."

"Indians and aliens unite with Jones and his untrustworthy buddies to save the world from a Russian threat — what rubbish, simply a paranoid Churchillian fantasy," Mukhin said.

Now I KNOW I have to go see the movie.

"But they go ahead and scare kids with Communists. These people have no shame,"
Did or did not Stalin murder uncounted thousands (maybe millions) of his countrymen because of his unchecked paranoia?

Did or did not Krushev pound his shoe on his desk at the U.N. and proclaim, "We will bury you!"

Did or did not the Communists attempt the overthrow Gorbachev's government?

Ask yourself if Trotsky would trust these folks?

                    Thousands yes, millions no.

No. What he said was not "we will throw you into the grave and dump earth on your head', it was "we will outlive you and be present at your burial".

Gorbachev ruined the Union by his inept reforms and by his willingness to listen to Regan who had a brain made of cork and was a funnel for Zbigniew Brzezinski's paranoid russophobia.

Trotsky was the one who supported the idea of world revolution. Of course he wouldn't trust these folks, he'd start a war with the USA to turn them into the USSA immediately.

It depends on what you mean by murder.. If you simply mean executed, then yes, Stalin's victims can only be counted in the thousands . . . the hundreds of thousands (slightly more then 823,000 to be pedantic). If we include all the people who were sent to the gulag for political reasons, plus those that died in Stalin's war against Finland, plus those who died because of his military incompetence, plus those who died because of his ham handed bureaucracy, plus those who died because of the famine, plus those who died because of his Comintern meddling (allowing the Nazis to take power in Germany and subordinating the Chinese Communist Party to the Kuomintang, not to mention the treachery against the French General strike and the Spanish Revolution), Stalin's death toll is probably closer to one hundred million people.

And no, Trotsky did not trust those folks. They killed nearly his entire family before they attempted to kill him, and then succeeded in doing so.

Right, if you want to sort of be for communism or variants of it, you want to distance yourself from Stalin and not make it the poster boy of communism. Just like if you want to be sort of into nationalism, you don't want to be saying Hitler was controversial but still OK. You want to denounce Stalin, which is just fine looking at the facts, so why not just do that instead of defending him... yes. That is, what che is doing.
