Have you ever read a book you've wished you could unread?
It drove me nuts as well, but that is why I liked it
"The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.
Although I have to say that I have read many books that I now wish that I could unread. I was young. I was naive.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
When i finally read Dune I was somewhat disappointed by it, because I already knew the whole story from friends, brothers, the movie, the miniseries. But I still thought it was a very good book - just somewhat underwhelming.

Even if the time I spent reading it would have been spent playing Civ 3 instead, I still want those hours back.
God Almighty. That must have been the worst book ever written, if it made you long for Civ 3.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead

Barry Trotter And The Shameless Parody by Michael Gerber is my contestant here. Luckily, i have managed already to forgot most of everything i've ever read anyway.
An excrutiatingly long drawn out depiction of a depraved slut in Paris. She didn't even have anything interesting to say about her life, let alone that she had anything exciting to say about her sex-life.
"An archaeologist is the best husband a women can have; the older she gets, the more interested he is in her." - Agatha Christie
"Non mortem timemus, sed cogitationem mortis." - Seneca
Civ 1 manual. I can't imagine how my life would be today if I hadn't got sucked up into that game.
Heart of Darkness was also crap.
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned
"Farvel Rune", in English "Farewell Rune". A children's book about a little girl and her best friend Rune. The pictures are scary, and the plot is that Rune drowns in a pond during play. I had nightmares if I only saw that book for years.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

Oh yeah: Dragonquest by Anne McCaffrey. The heroine falls madly in love--with a guy who physically abuses her--and this is supposed to be a good thing?!

I figured they would get better. After a point they couldn't possible get worse, right? Wrong.
I could suggest a few good ones if you wish.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
One of the Choose Your Own Adventure novels, after I had devoted close to 40 minutes to it, managed to somehow trap me in an infinite loop. Something like IF YOU WANT TO TALK TO THE ROBOT, GO TO PAGE 15. IF YOU WANT TO RUN AWAY, TURN TO PAGE 25. Well page 25 was BLANK and talking to the robot resulted in my death (I read the page 3 times and there was nothing subtextual, the robot just shoots you with a laser and you die). What was the point? I had loved the series but this book turned me off it for some time.
This page documents some of their problems with this series.
