No, and that's the point. Add it onto the airfare and see how it stacks up against their competitors rather than give a misleading initial price which is going to be pushed up! There should be far greater transparency in the pricing policies of airlines, which is what Asher is trying to indicate, to allow for easier direct comparison and better competition...

Can you not book the same flights through United? They are a code-share partner and on many routes you can book on either airline.

I have to fly to/from Toronto quite a bit and if I cannot get a good fare on Delta, I will check others (using Orbitz or Travelocity). Many times the exact same flight is listed for both Air Canada and United - the United one is almost always cheaper.

That said, fares have increased markedly across the board over the last three weeks.

For work when we fly to the US, it's almost exclusively on American or United. If only because when LGA flights get delayed/cancelled, it's far easier to get flights on the American airlines.

Only Canadian carriers can fly from Canadian city to Canadian city, alas.

Maybe if the government didnt interfere so much open competition would make these surcharges a bad idea?

Well, basically Air Canada and WestJet are the only two national airlines. If Air Canada advertises much lower fares than WestJet 'cause WestJet includes fuel in their airfare, then it would have no choice but to do the same thing. That's one reason this pisses me off.
