A middle school teacher in Florida recently did a "magic" trick (read: illusion) where he made a tooth pick seem to disappear and then reappear. Parents got upset and accused the teacher of practicing witchcraft and pressured the school board into firing him for "wizardry". You just can't make this stuff up.

A Florida teacher's magic trick seems to have made his job vanish.
Jim Piculas worked as a substitute teacher at a middle school about 30 minutes from Tampa, Florida.
One day he made a toothpick "disappear" then "reappear" in front of his students, but the next day he got a call from his supervisor saying he didn't need to return to campus.
"I said, 'Well pat, what's this all about?' And he said, 'I don't really know how to put this Jim except to say that you've been accused of wizardry.'"
The school district claims there were other problems, like not following lesson plans and letting students play on computers.
Piculas is challenging his dismissal.
