I think we can safely assume that this isn't the brightest individual walking the face of the earth.

Close. The barrel length must exceed 18".Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I'd imagine that the legislative reasoning behind banning sawn-offs but not the real ones is that sawn-offs are primarily used for concealment purposes (indicating illegal activity and intent to frustrate detection by other humans), whereas normal shotguns at least have a valid use for hunting game.
...
Not that I personally agree with that necessarily, but the US court system has generally respected that difference. The last Supreme Court opinion that dealt with the 2nd Amendment directly, in the early 1900s, specifically addressed that the 2nd Amendment did not protect sawn-off shotguns."lol internet" ~ AAHZ

I would have expected that sort of post from someone like Ali (well, obviously not that reply...) not some upstanding contributor to the site such as yourself Imran. You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Beyond that, I'm told that last Septemner it was passed that any person can carry a handgun in their vehicle, anywhere, anytime. Used to be, you could if you were leaving your home for the night.
You can agree with the concept or not, that's not the point.
The real point is that, and I'll use Texas as an example, since people love to harp on Texas, is that law enforcement is willing to accept help in stopping crime.
You may find this hard to beieve, but Texans aren't violent, it's more that they won't tolerate violence,
Personally, and again feek free to disagree, but I have no proebkem with it. If I werere to see an armed robber, and I had a gun in my proximity, I'd ask once and once only that they cease and dissist. If they fail to comply, it's not me at fault.

I don't have a problem with the gun law. It's just the barrel length requirement that's screwed up. Not noticeable when first thought up, but there are a couple of problems with it, such as extremely tall people. You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

What?
Barrel length has do to do with how quickly the shot spreads. As a home defense weapon, thats what you really want. What you describe willl definitely kill. What I desribe is for a nervous person under attack who doesn't want to particularly kill.
I think this makes it very clear.
A) We're off topic.
B) Texans aren'r the blood thirsty mob some people have in their mind.
We won't be messed with, but why is that a problem, and is it really so different? I only have Texas, really, as a point of reference.
What do you other people do? Ignore all? Again, I ask out of ignorance. A person is ignorant until they know. Tell me.Last edited by SlowwHand; May 4, 2008, 10:45.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Eh, Slowwhand, I feel your pain too about stereotypes. Except for me it's a problem when people go off on Chinese people and the Chinese government. Just like it rattles you to see people portray Texans as some state of bloodthirsty killers, it bothers me when people portray China as some looming warmongering irrational "evil empire".
I haven't found there's really much you can do in that situation except try to change people's minds by posting rationally when you can, and just ignoring the more outlandish posts outright. It's very, very hard to go against ingrained stereotypes, and sometimes you score more points for visibly accepting or ignoring hostile posts rather than flaming back in return. But it still leaves a bitter taste in the craw...
For what it's worth, my own perception on Texans has never been that they're out of control or out to kill people. I do have a perception (possibly a misperception) that they're living with a stronger tradition of self-reliance and less trust of government than, say, the more liberal states of New York etc. might have.
The main stereotype that comes through about Texas, however, isn't that the people are mean or anything. It's just that everything's so goddam big down there. E.g.:
Driver: Y'know, all this talk about Texas being big. It's just a fib, right?
Passenger: How d'ya mean?
Driver: Like, I've been driving around with you for hours and everything seems normal sized. Like this road for example.
Passenger: Yeah, well, you're not drivin' on the road, son. You're driving on the solid white line in the middle.

Now that's funny.
