  • mass behavior is rarely as rational as individual behavior
    Democracy vs Freedom

There is a ~small percent of people with European ancestry (mainly N Europe) with varying "immunity" to AIDS. The AIDS virus is apparently similar to the Plague in how it attacks cells, so the Plague wipes out the defenseless leaving behind people with some immunity for other viruses like AIDS. Thats what I read maybe a couple years ago anyway, not sure what they've concluded since. I doubt this is climate related

      Statistically that's not true.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

      • You can't make the generalization in either direction.

I read the same thing a few months ago.

          • I like when people throw around terms like "empirically" and "statistically" but not actually post said stats that would back up their point.

A couple years ago, the bubonic plague was discarded in favor of small pox (with a similar mechanism), since it had a much more significant impact on the gene pool.

                  • you mean small pox, Bubonic and AIDS all attack cells in a similar manner? And that the theory now is that small pox spread the immunity? I thought there was a geographic connection to the immunity - that where the Plague went it left behind a resistant population.

Cause no one ever went after Falwell and Robertson for saying 9/11 was done by God... oh wait.. they did!!
Oh yeah? I remember that. It was a hoo hah for a short while and then died down. I don't remember seeing it replayed endlessly to screw the electoral prospects of Falwell's friends in the Republican party.

                      • Well there kind of wasn't a national election coming up in 2001.

And also Falwell and Robertson apologized profusely and never brought it up again.

The Wright thing was just about dead and buried and then he had to open his trap again and go nuts.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

                          • I am also still curious as to which Republican presidential candidate was a member of Robertson/Falwell's congregation for 20 years. OMFG ITS THE SAME!!!!

I think he was annoyed at the dishonest attacks on him, and annoyed at Obama's response. I happen to think he had a case.
