  • The Marines and Expanding Pool of Recruits

Recently, I read in the news that the Marines of United States have expanded their recruiting pool to include convicted felons.

This is ****ed up; convicted felons have greater respect than upright, law abiding citizens who freely identify themselves as gay or lesbian.

It was actually alreay posted here I think.

In any case, you have always been able to join every service as a felon if you recieved a waiver. It had everything to do with the facts of the convition, whatever skills you were bringing, an interview, age of conviction, how long ago it was, what it was for, etc...

Can't join the Air Force as a felon.

Air Force has the highest standards for entry, and th eslowest to make pay grade (earn stripes). Time and tests. If you don't go above E-5 within a given time, it's adios, mother.

I was wrong, it had been posted on an inferior forum. I am sure you will all be floored by the numbers.

Under pressure to meet combat needs, the Army and Marine Corps brought in significantly more recruits with felony convictions last year than in 2006, including some with manslaughter and sex crime convictions.

Data released by a congressional committee shows the number of soldiers admitted to the Army with felony records jumped from 249 in 2006 to 511 in 2007. And the number of Marines with felonies rose from 208 to 350.

Those numbers represent a fraction of the more than 180,000 recruits brought in by the active duty Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2007. But they highlight a trend that has raised concerns both within the military and on Capitol Hill.

The bulk of the crimes involved were burglaries, other thefts, and drug offenses, but nine involved sex crimes and six involved manslaughter or vehicular homicide convictions. Several dozen Army and Marine recruits had aggravated assault or robbery convictions, including incidents involving weapons.

Why have a Salusa Secundus if you don't use it?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

DADT is obviously a terrible policy, but I don't see why the armed services should blanketly exclude felons. The individual circumstances are obviously important. In a general sense, our society needs to be a lot better at getting felons employed.

MR FUN you have lost control of your mind. There is one thing the army needs more than anything:

                              THE IMAGE OF MANLINESS.

This is why we allow felons and robberers into the army but not men who like watching Lifetime. It is simply because, when you take away the image of manliness, recruit numbers drop, and the terrorists in Iraq will simply laugh at us and hurl insults, calling us BARNEY LOVERS, ********ING CAT OWNERS, and other psychologically devastating insults until our morale drops.

I can think of nothing more manly than risking your life to rob a bank despite overwhelming odds you will be shot fifteen times before you can even step foot outside. Or punching someone who is black in a nightclub when the bouncer is just so big (hate crimes = felonies automatically, which is where they really get you)

You need more than the image though. You need the goods. Quite frankly many gay men are concerned about manicures and pedicures such as Ryan Seacrest. In reality, real men only shower their genitals and their hair and only for like 5 minutes every morning. This gives more time for FIGHTING and less time for reality TV. Singing in the shower is OKAY but I would not recommend it.
