  • Brits Spend 5 Pounds Each Day on Lunch

How much do you spend on lunch each day? Or do you bring your from home?

I spend about 2 euros which comes out as 1.6 of those funny British currency units. The price is subsidised by the company, the real price is about double that.

For that I get soup, main dish which is usually meat + rice or potatos or something, bread and salad.

    You?

I probably spend about 5 pounds, give or take a pound (this is in USD of course). $8-$12. I eat a lot for lunch though, it's often my main meal of the day, probably 800 calories or so. If I have a small lunch it's more like $7. (I work in downtown Chicago, so prices are sort of high...)

        $5 - $10 (3-6 of those euro thingies)

        Relatively cheap.

It varies depending on what I get, but I'd average it out to about $8 for food and beverage. That assumes I'm getting something at a food court/deli.

If I didn't get change from a five bob note for a sandwich, drink and snack then I wouldn't buy from there again unless it was really good.

Although I have no problem spending over £3 for a beer.

$5 - $7. That's either for a bowl of soup or a sandwich and chips.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

10 pound minimums, wow. That's tough. We have usually $8-$10 minimums, and that's half the value or less... and most places don't even have that.

I haven't been hit by a credit card minimum for quite a while. I now even use my card for $2 purchases.

Wow, you find $5-$7 in DC? No drink I suppose cuts it down a bit, but still, that's pretty small... 6" Subway?
