If SF manages to use the torch as a "prop" in a gay pride parade I'm pretty sure that will gain them a perfect 10 from the judges.

I'm secretly hoping for a surprise performance by Pyongyang.

Additional points if they flunk the choreographed stadium ceremony.

according to some Greek high level IOC officials, this was forseen and it was suggested to the Chinese to do the relay only in China but they refused (at least that these officials claim now)

This is really funny and pretty interesting. The Chinese have little clue about how to handle the situation when they can't control it outright.

I can't believe that some western countries are allowing the Chinese gestapo to "escort" the torch, however.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                        Now, do you think that:

                        a) Calms the situation
                        b) Aggravates it

Sometimes, I get worried that the Chinese are going to be a powerhouse in 40 years, culturally dominating much of the world and spreading an authoritarian philosophy.

Then I see stuff like this...

Obviously, these Olympics are the best news for Tibet in a long time.

Unlike many people, I don't think that Tibet is the worst example of the odiousness of the Chinese government.

It's as good an "issue" as any, though.
