Palmer House has a huge variety of rooms, actually, you just have to get a good one (usually a corner room, for example, though I think the floor matters also). They haven't significantly renovated it in three years as far as I know. It is (VERY) old, so it's hards to do some of the things like wireless internet, I suspect.
If you don't mind spending a bit, the Swisshotel up on the lake is a very nice hotel and rather more modern. I think it's usually easy to get <$200 a night there through discounts, though I think the regular rate is over that.
