Skipping a day buying gas is worthless.
Let's say they all sit a day and don't drive? So what? The next day they have the same distance to drive, and buy the same amount of gas. They detained by 1 day profits at the pump, as well as delaying delivering their load. Who suffered? Only the people waiting on the load.

"It worries the hell out of me," said 10-year truck driver Stan Hall, of Salt Lake City. "It just seems like a nightmare. In my wildest dreams, I wouldn't have guessed it would get this bad."
Not so much dreamers, those truckies.

            1) It's for a week

            2) One would think they would be driving an additional load the next week

A week, a day. No difference. They don't drive, they don't get paid.

A week certainly can make more of a difference than a day. Imagine if everyone didn't drive for a week, compared to if they didn't drive for just a day. Just one day isn't going to hurt the oil companies much, but a whole week will hurt them a lot.

A week wouldn't even faze the the Oil Companies. Some truck stops would be hurt big time, and consumers who counted on the goods that would have been in the trucks would be hurt as well... but the Oil Companies... NAHHHH... just a drip in their very large bucket of profits.

Sure, yea. It would just be a drop, but they would lose out on that revenue. Sloww was saying that they wouldn't lose out on any revenue because the truckers would just do the same amount of driving.

And Ming is saying they wouldn't give a ****, while the only people actually hurt would be truck stop owners, consumers, and such. Oh, and the truck drivers. That's the problem with you commies. You're all righteous about overthrowing the evil guys at the top, which is all well and good, but you forget that the people doing most of the dying are the folks at the bottom of the barrel ...

How about, instead of *****ing about 'profits' (god forbid a company make a profit, no, that's not why they exist at all), the truckers strike a deal with one of the major gas companies to get discount gas (in exchange for patronising their company, of course). Then you end up with a win-win ... instead of a lose-meh.

They do not exist to make a profit. They exist to provide a service, and to create jobs and other things that society needs. We just put up with them making a profit.

Gee, I don't know snoopy. You tell me why that doesn't happen in a capitalist system. Why are profits so outrageous?! It's your damn system. You explain it.

The solution would have to come on the pay side. Oil companies aren't going to cut prices (I do like snoopy's suggestion however) so in the end trucking companies (and others) using independents will have to pay more. This cost of course will be passed through the chain.

Not as long as we let them get away with keeping prices high anyway.

So you think the trucking companies are going to take the hit? How is that?

Um, no. Maybe in a communist country this is true. In a capitalist country, companies exist to make a profit. The service and the other things are how they make a profit.

Profits aren't outrageous innately, they just are. The outrage is generated by you and your ilk; you tell me why you consider them outrageous.

I presume it doesn't happen because truckers are, by and large, independent, and don't organize very well. I suspect large trucking companies DO this (or just run their own small gas company).
