I'm not exactly sure who is to blame for this but I am sure it sucks. My family has always been a bit on the male patriarchiac side (shocking I'm sure) so any way I was minding my own business at my own house when around noon my dad called me and said he was with my uncle (my mother's older sister's husband) and my three cousins (two boys and one girl) and he told me they'd like to come over to say hi before we all had Easter dinner at 5pm over at my dad's house. Of course I said yes.
So any way my dad, my uncle, and my three cousins come over at noon and we watch a tape of last year's super bowl while drinking beer & wine and just chatting. My dad's girlfriend is back at his house with my aunt cooking the Easter leg of lamb. Again patriarchal but the norm in my family. So any way my dad calls his girlfriend telling her we're watching football and having a few drinks and she gives him the twenty questions about when he'll be coming back. He says at 5pm (basically at the scheduled dinner time) and it is clear she is unhappy with that answer.
My uncle and I try to encourage my dad to just wrap it up and go to his house in the name of domestic peace but he's insistant that everyone is watching the game and that we should all finish before leaving. Fast forward to after the game, about 4:45, when 6 of us get back to my dad's house. His girlfirend, rather fittingly, is fuming mad and threatening to go to her son's house for the night (kind of hard since he's in LA at his wife's parent's house) and saying she was worried about us even though my dad called her. Basically my uncle, cousins, and I sa there while my dad and his girlfriend argued. Not good. Eventually the six of us (aunt, uncle, three cousins, and I eat the lamb while both of the other two storm out of the house.
Bull**** Easter if you ask me.
