  • Bump this thread when your Easter gets messed up.

I'm not exactly sure who is to blame for this but I am sure it sucks. My family has always been a bit on the male patriarchiac side (shocking I'm sure) so any way I was minding my own business at my own house when around noon my dad called me and said he was with my uncle (my mother's older sister's husband) and my three cousins (two boys and one girl) and he told me they'd like to come over to say hi before we all had Easter dinner at 5pm over at my dad's house. Of course I said yes.

So any way my dad, my uncle, and my three cousins come over at noon and we watch a tape of last year's super bowl while drinking beer & wine and just chatting. My dad's girlfriend is back at his house with my aunt cooking the Easter leg of lamb. Again patriarchal but the norm in my family. So any way my dad calls his girlfriend telling her we're watching football and having a few drinks and she gives him the twenty questions about when he'll be coming back. He says at 5pm (basically at the scheduled dinner time) and it is clear she is unhappy with that answer.

My uncle and I try to encourage my dad to just wrap it up and go to his house in the name of domestic peace but he's insistant that everyone is watching the game and that we should all finish before leaving. Fast forward to after the game, about 4:45, when 6 of us get back to my dad's house. His girlfirend, rather fittingly, is fuming mad and threatening to go to her son's house for the night (kind of hard since he's in LA at his wife's parent's house) and saying she was worried about us even though my dad called her. Basically my uncle, cousins, and I sa there while my dad and his girlfriend argued. Not good. Eventually the six of us (aunt, uncle, three cousins, and I eat the lamb while both of the other two storm out of the house.

Bull**** Easter if you ask me.

Yes, we watch old sporting events (but I don't really like sports so I only watch them in the context of family events where everyone else likes them). To be fair old dad got fairly toasty on beer and wine while I only had four beer in 4.66 hours. I ended up driving everyone the 1.5 miles to my dad's house and his girlfriend's mood was not improved by his toasty state.

Still, it is a holiday so I honestly think people should get a free pass as long as they're safe (with a sober driver, etc...) and it is hard to find a sober Scotsmen.

Sorry to hear your day wasn't well...

My Aunt made really good cinnamon rolls this morning. I had 2 for breakfast, along with some bacon and eggs. Then in the afternoon I took a nice nap in the sun, as the ocean breeze blew in through the windows to keep me cool. So maybe I shouldn't have bumped this thread yet.

I forgot to mention we had some of the best fried chicken I've ever had for dinner, and afterwards we had some cheesecake with fresh strawberries. Then I surfed the net for a while and watched the sun set out over the ocean.

It really wasn't that great a sunset. Not "ruin my Easter" bad, but still, it wasn't as good as the cinnamon rolls. That's gotta count for something, right?

Yes, I have a DVD player but no I don't have a DVD-R. So VHS it is for taping things.

How do you end up watching last year's superbowl? Couldn't you watch the NCAA tourney or something? Or are you recording that for the 4th of July? (Just want to know so that I can avoid telling you stuff like UNC won their game today.)

Cable sucks anyways. You'll notice that in my "not ruining Easter" posts, nowhere did I mention watching Cable TV.

What's the matter, baby? Did you get given a hollow bunny instead of a solid bunny? I can see how that could cause crisis.
