  • I hate computers

You goddamn computer engineers don't know what the **** you are doing.

I got home, my computer wouldn't start but all of the mobo LEDs indicated life. I unplugged the PSU for 30s, plugged it back in, turned it on again and

    POP

I think it's the powersupply. AGAIN. Christ.

I had that happen not too long ago as well...

Check your incoming current, if it's happening repeatedly it could be due to insufficient current coming in and/or irregular current coming in (say, due to a refrigerator being on the same line or something).

      Popping is bad. Sorry.

What model PSU do you have?

Assumed it was a repeat due to 'AGAIN'... i'm not sure what Pop means other than that it broke unfortunately.

            Corsair HX620W.

            Cost me a pretty penny.

Before I just had constant crashes. Replacing the PSU fixed it.

I'm not even going to replace this under warranty (again). *******s take a month to RMA, charge me shipping, and still send me broken ****.

I'll be buying a new one.

Suggestions for a >600W ultra quiet PSU?

Sorry to hear it. Thank-you for telling us what PSU it was so we can avoid it.

You have pennies in North America? I guess old habits die hard. Still, I'm sure it's only a few minutes earnings for you.

It's still possible current is the problem then... is your computer:
                      a) on a dedicated line (from the breaker box to your outlet), or on a shared line (where multiple outlets share a breaker line, or multiple devices share an outlet beyond your computer/monitor/printer)?
                      b) behind a UPS or a surge protector?

On a UPS on a dedicated line is optimal... on the other hand you have my situation, which is to have three lines for the whole apartment (2 computers 2 refrigerators 2 TVs, lots of lights, oven, microwave, A/C, etc., all on 3 lines total) it is very bad for the PSU. Also, if the UPS is bad it can be worse for you than if you have no UPS.

Buy a mac, you'll never have this problem.

Too bad, I've had good luck with my HX520's. You could probably exchange it again and ebay it at least.

What video card do you have (8800 Ultra still?)

From what I've read, Enermax's Liberty line is quiet, has good specs (better than corsair for most setups), and modular cabling (not as good as corsair IMO). Never owned one though.

It's actually on its own circuit, intended for air conditioners.

                            A high-end surge protector.

I still have the 8800 Ultra, yeah.

I'm looking at Enermax or Antec...though I've had an Antec die on me historically.
