The traffic one of London is an honest mistake on my part, but its a god damn road with cars and trees on it, it could be anywhere! The only thing giving it away is the red bus, but how was I supposed to know? Google failed me on that one. But like I said before, it looks like Chicago, so it shall be Chicago for all I care.
Anyway, back on topic, Kid just pointed out another crappy city, so my point still stands, America does not have an efficient upgrading programme in a lot of its cities, and that is my question, why is it, a country like Singapore, which according to Pat, has miles of tin roof slums ( ), is upgrading faster with better technology than places like Chicago?be free

Didn't this thread say: "America = 20th century Rest of World = 21st Century"
All frosty talked about was Chicago and Singapore to back up his ridiculous claim, as if Chicago = America and Singapore = Rest of the World.
You have never been to Singapore, yet you can claim to not want to live there? I have never been to Florida, but I'm not going to say I don't want to live there, even though I have heard horrible stories about it. Your presumptions get the better of you.
When I was in Chicago, I took the train out to the suburbs to some factory outlet, quite new one, branded products, very cheap, was great but I saw a lot of houses on the way, and they were all run down, paint peeling, roofs torn, garden ruined, everything just looked beaten. Maybe some of you like it, but I experience similar things in my home town of Christchurch, and I have never enjoyed it. It's sad to think that people are just too lazy, or don't care, or don't have the money to upgrade what they have, to take care of it. When I first came to Singapore, I was amazed at how clean and efficient everything was, I said to myself, this is how a city should run, it should look like it is going somewhere, it should emitt the sense of hope and progress for everyone, not just the rich.
And I have the impression that America was once like this, but where is it now? Is America going down the same road as Europe once did?be free

Or the tiny cars? The lack of SUVs?

as we could read in this thread, it's because they are oppressed by an authoritarian dictatorship while the freedom Americans enjoy in Chicago prevents them to do the same.
or in other words they are upgrading, but just waiting for it to be really old for the upgrades to be considered worthwhile, as they are free to do what they want to do they wanted to get loaded, and they wanted to have a good time... so that's what they want to do... they wanna be free, they wanna be free to do what they wanna do, and they wanna get loaded, and they wanna have a good time, that's what they're gonna do No way baby lets go They're gonna have a good time They're gonna have a partySocrates: "Good is That at which all things aim, If one knows what the good is, one will always do what is good." Singaporeans do that too, all the while enjoying a cleaner environment.
Avalon, I was looking for a picture of Chicago and its cars, I wasn't looking at what side of the road they were on. Trucks aren't everywhere and I forgot about SUV's. (which also can't be everywhere). Sorry if it's insulting, but that picture reminded me of one part of Chicago that I was in, i guess you just can't get rid of the European style no matter how hard you try. :Pbe free

Well, on the one hand, our cars and transportation system are not very shiny or new. On the other, we only execute people for being murderers and/or retarded, not for jaywalking, and some of our women have large, natural breasts. So I figure I'd rather be here than Singapore.

My impression of Singapore was that it was just a big outlet mall.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”
