I take it he didn't set aside a few thousand gp for a Resurrection spell.

But seriously, he certainly had an influence on my childhood and my adult years. Countless hours have been spent by me playing and DMing. I hope he made it to one of the good aligned planes.

I remember picking up a copy of "Chainmail" from Gary.
It was pre D&D. A game played with Miniatures. Shortly there after, he released the three book set that became the basis for D&D. Yeah, he was never the smartest businessman... but he was truly a creative guy with great ideas.

        RIP GARY!

              RIP Gary.

I spent many an afternoon/evening/all night playing, DMing and coming up with fiendish new ways to confuse and baffle the players in my campaigns.

"Farewell, good thief," he said. "I go now to the halls of waiting to sit beside my fathers, until the world is renewed. Since I leave now all gold and silver, and go where it is of little worth, I wish to part in friendship from you, and I would take back my words and deeds at the Gate ... There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!"

Sorely missed. His early works (Alexander the Great, Divine Right, Chainmail, and of course the original D&D (Greyhawk and Blackmoor) with D. A. ) got me into gaming and I haven't looked back since. We have gotten together numerous times at various conventions, especially the early GenCons and written each other during my military years. I was sorry to see him leave the scene in the middle 80's despite what happened and I'm even more sorry than ever now. I join the ranks of the many who feel they lost a member of the family...

Damn... and I just found out my only uncle just died today as well...
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." -- JFK Inaugural, 1961
"Extremism in the defense of liberty is not a vice." -- Barry Goldwater, 1964 GOP Nomination acceptance speech (not George W. Bush 40 years later...)
