I think you're looking at the wrong things in it. I suppose it depends how often you view it, or where you view it, or what sources you have -- but no, I don't think it can get boring unless you always get the same kind with the same people.
How should one look at it, then? It's clearly not at the (stunning lack of any) plot. And it's not like there's that much creativity or artistry in that branch of filmmaking, so it's hardly the cinematography or the selection of a soundtrack that would be fascinating.
When you get down to it, it's really just kinda repetitive. In, out, in, out, in, out, ah...

Do you think it would be wise for Microsoft, with respect to Windows, go a route where they simply forget about backwards compatibility with respect to applications for Windows 7, and simply set up a protected emulation layer for any programs that might need it, similar to Classic Environment?

I think it's wise to support Win32 in a deprecated setting only. Don't get rid of it until Win32 apps are extremely rare.
