If you have foul smelling municipal water I can understand it, but most of us don't. Bottled water is an example of brilliant marketing that managed to convince people they need something that they didn't need.

Then of course is the environmental damage caused by the industry but that's another issue...

Wezil, hang in there pal! You seem to have the good advice here but you should rethink the VitC! It terminates a flu. I had this flu here in the Phils, took a couple thou of C a day and it was gone in three.

You could always hop on a plane and join us here, we still have a few weeks. That way you still have the flu but it's warm and sunny and the summer energy eases away tension, you're not alone and everything is alive...good for the spirit. You're welcome any time! I just asked Vic to get your room ready sooo...

I can't possibly get away. Just juggling my work schedule for each day I miss is hard for me and my colleagues. I worked last Friday and I'm scheduled for work tomorrow.

VitC is of course a good idea. I have a tasty California orange in front of me.

I admit I drink bottled water occasionally, but not at home and not at work generally. I drink filtered water there (filtering removes the chlorinated taste).

I drink bottled water for the convenience factor on the road. If Chicago sold bottled tap water, or had lots of actually clean drinking fountains all around the city, i'd happily drink that; but drinking fountains are never clean, so instead I buy a bottle when travelling around the city. It's better than buying a bottle of soda after all

Snoopy - I can understand bottled water when you can't trust the available source. I buy bottled water for camping rather than draw water from the lake. I don't trust it. It's thinking bottled is somehow better than your municipal source that is what gets me. For most people it just isn't.

I wasn't sure when it started what it was you were showing me. Was it a music video? A commentary on health? Then they guy hung from the bar. That is insane man.

In study published here in Finland few weeks ago tap water had least bacteria, bottled water had more and drinking fountains (the ones with big bottle, seen at workplaces and stores) had most of bacteria (all were still safe to consume iirc).

We do have excellent tap water here, even if city of Nokia had quite a lot of bad luck recently - about 3 months ago someone connected semi-clean sewer water to city's fresh water supply , half of the city got sick and only recently got it pipes clean.

Helsinki tap water has been chosen as winner in (blind) taste comparison against 'brand' bottled waters... hopefully no one tries that same move here.

Here tap water is excellent too, and often much better than certain sorts of bottled water.

Probably significantly less so than plastic-bottled water, which has quite a few interesting plastic byproducts

Our systems pretty efficiently handle small quantities of the metals our pipes are made out of. Plastics on the other hand can be much more insidious.

Bottled water can be bad too, but I find it hard to believe that it's worse than tap water. When I moved here to Oklahoma City and took a shower in unfiltered water I couldn't stop sneezing. The steam was making the toxins enter my sinuses, and I must not have been used to the specific toxins in this water.

It's better to drink water you filter yourself, but I'll take bottled water of tap water any day.

You use the word 'toxins' like it has a specific meaning. It doesn't... 'toxins' are anything that is damaging to cells (including many beneficial things, such as lymphotoxins, which aren't really cell damaging at all).

Furthermore, it is highly unlikely for any 'toxins' in the water to evaporate along with the steam. Steam generally is purified water, unless something is dissolved in the water that has a boiling point around that of water (and most things dissolved in water are solids at any reasonable temperature). Alcohol or vinegar would go into the steam (although they likely would 'steam' well before the water did); most other things would just stay in the water.

There's a reason professional journals don't publish most of this toxin **** ... it's because it's nearly entirely bogus science, easily disprovable by someone with only an undergraduate college education. A real scientist specializing in this stuff would just laugh... Certainly there are very bad things that you can ingest that you shouldn't, but in most cases those things are intentionally ingested (ie, THC, heroin, alcohol, tobacco)...
