  • Cuban Embargo: Stupid idea or failed policy?

I am curious to find out if anyone in this site supports a continuation of the US embargo against Cuba, because to me an embargo that has failed to work for 46 years would seem to clearly be a failed policy.

I guess it would depend on the intent of the policy.

If it was to remove Castro it has obviously failed.

What intent would make it a success? IMO, the embargo has served special interests only. The unfortunate thing is that every single politician has sold it to the american people as if it's in everyones best interest, and that's including every presidential candidate in the current election.

Some people feel the US should not be doing business with a nation with human rights abuses as bad as Cuba. Unfortunately this is not applied evenly (ie the Saudis).

From a moralistic point of view there is merit to the embargo.

Was the embargo against South Africa a bad thing?

                        obviously failed.
And while I wouldn't say it was stupid when it was implemented, it certainly seems like it is now.
My favorite post on the matter was the recent.
