  • William F. Buckley Jr. Is Dead at 82

William F. Buckley Jr., who marshaled polysyllabic exuberance, famously arched eyebrows and a refined, perspicacious mind to elevate conservatism to the center of American political discourse, died Wednesday at his home in Stamford, Conn.

Mr Buckley, 82, suffered from diabetes and emphysema, his son Christopher said, although the exact cause of death was not immediately known. He was found at his desk in the study of his home, his son said. “He might have been working on a column,” Mr. Buckley said.

Mr. Buckley’s winningly capricious personality, replete with ten-dollar words and a darting tongue writers loved to compare with an anteater’s, hosted one of television’s longest-running programs, “Firing Line,” and founded and shepherded the influential conservative magazine, “National Review.”

I'll give him credit for having lived "a full life". Obviously he was a very intelligent fellow. Being that his ideas and ideology lead to the current conservative dogma, I can't say I'm sorry to see him go.

      So young.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I think I'll go out and buy a bottle of his cough syrup, because that's what he would have wanted.

He was a conservative when being a conservative wasn't cool.

Always a gentleman. Always an intellect. A bit arrogant, but he had a lot to be arrogant about.

                This is a sad day.

Before your time. His peak was in the last sixties and seventies.

You've gotta admire a conservative so committed to his principles that he would openly support legalization of marijuana.

To be honest, I didn't really appreciate him. But I know that others appreciate him, and that is enough.

                          RIP.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

While I didn't agree with many of his stances, I still resprected the man. He was "one of a kind"
