As a matter of fact; you're influenced by things that you watch/listen, etc... It can be subtle, insidious, it can takes several years. But if watching child porn would be "legal", it would make many people believe that kid actually like that or this is actually good to make it. It can lead to Amorality towards child sex.
The same pattern appear with guys who think all the girls in porn actually like that. And so they think, that girls in real life, actually like that.

What if watching it gives the sicko enough "pleasure" that he doesn't feel compelled to act on his urges. It could actually be therapuetic if not at least preventative. Especially if the "child-porn" is computer generated and not even real.
I'm supposed to feel better that a perv stops at watching. The perv can get ass raped with a board, for all I care.
He's watching someone. Someone that it was a crime to have do it. Someone smoked a childhood.

The basic issue isn't watching child porn, but creating it (in the process, exploiting children) or incentivizing its creation (by buying it). Watching or owning it shouldn't be illegal.

Why is it OK to view other crimes - even worse crimes (like murder). I highly doubt witching a film of the Kennedy Assassination or the 9/11 attacks makes me an accomplice.
When you watch a film of the Kennedy assassination, you aren't paying Lee Harvey Oswald. When you watch child porn, you're paying the people who create and distribute it.

I disagree. Demand drives the supply.

Those who watch child porn are much more likely to engage in child molestation then the general populace.
Of course, but that certainly doesn't imply causation. People who watch gay sex are more likely to engage in gay sex than the rest of the population because both groups are likely to be gay. Are you really more likely to have sex after you've watched porn?
Additionally, pornography supports and legitamizes what it is showing. Look at how anal sex has went from being rare to being very common.
There are violent movies. Would banning them delegitimize violence?

That's why purchasing it should be illegal, and heavily prosecuted.

Sloow I amnot supporting child rape/porn. My only points are the
a) watching a crime is not the same as committing it
b) if watching a crime actually stops one from being committed that would be a good thing
c) if it is computer genereted then ther is no actual child being hurt and perhaps some children being protected.
-Jon Miller: You must be pretty young because there was lots of anal sex going when I was young in the 70's and 80's - same with oral. Just because the internet didn't exist doesn't mean that people weren't doing that. If anything I think there was more of it in the 60's and 70's (pre-AIDS) then now. You confuse the availability of it on the web with the amount it was practiced.
I remember my dad once telling me that every new generation thinks they evented sex, drugs and music.
I am not saying such didn't take place in the 60s or 70s. I am saying that it is much more popular now. I have seen statistics of this (although it wasn't something I personally read in a refereed journal).

The same principle applies, Ramo. What do you not get?

No, it doesn't. You were describing market behavior. Increased demand for a good leads to increased supply specifically because people can make a buck from selling that good. That's why the law should focus on preventing people from making said buck.
