Good post Pekka. But this actually isn't tazing. This is just beating someone up which of course has been happening since before the tazings. It's interesting to see that some people have the same attitude about it as they do about tazing.

I didn't bring Doneagal into this. I like the guy. What happened to you? You were never so puffed up and self righteous before.

The only part that would bother me, is if the woman got off on all her charges because of this.

To save time they should have the trials back to back.

Well tazing or not, I didn't want to watch that video. The tazing videos made me sick already. I mean some of them are like... can you be MORE wrong with that taser? As in the folks getting the treatment were more than polite and not resisting in the first place, nor did they do anything wrong.

So that's just bad luck I guess? No I don't want to watch some cop beating up a woman who is already arrested. Not my kind of material.

I find the idea of state violence completely ridiculous. Why should I be forced to pay for it? I mean I actually get to pay in advance for my future beating? At least thugs have the courtesy to beat you up, take what's on you then. You don't have to pay them in advance. Plus they have the courtesy to leave you alone after that.

The fired cop will make a very credible witness.

That's kind of the system. If the cops commit crimes during the booking, processing, or other parts then the whole thing gets tossed. The solution is to punish the hell out of the bad cops so that we don't have cops committing crimes.

Could it b a fundamental difference between the way cops are chosen and traind in the USA and in europe?
In most european countries cop brutalities seem to be rather rare compared to the USA (and if such brutalities occur they´re normally big in the headlines).
Of course it might be that the reports about police brutality in the USA are vastly exaggerated, but for me as a foreigner who never has been in the USA it sounds to me llike I should trust american policemen much less than their european counterparts.

But really, what evidence do we have other than the word of one person who was inebriated at the time, and the fact that the camera was briefly blocked? Hell, the blood on the floor could have been vomited, and can we even tell whether the bruises weren't in fact developing from a domestic incident or brawl before she was arrested?

Even if she was physically unharmed before the arrest, for all we know the cop stepped outside to get a cup of coffee, and while he was gone she banged her face and body against walls and furniture. Or maybe she did that right in front of him before he could stop her. There have been countless instances of self-inflicted injury for the sole purpose of hoping to derail one's own criminal trial and/or to get a civil judgment against the municipality. If I were drunk enough I'd probably do it myself.

I'm not giving this guy the benefit of the doubt by any means, but it does seem silly to jump to conclusions based on such a heavily edited and confusing video. At least the news articles are more concrete.

How could she get her swollen eyes then?
Ram her own fist into them?

At least I cannot imagine any other incident that would leave the area around the eyes swollen but the eyes intact (and I can hardly imagine that they stem from a brawl she had before her arrest [I would expect her to look battered in this case])

Most office-type places will have at least some rounded corners available; I'm sitting at a library desk right now and can count three spots that would perfectly recreate a fist.

Bruises take hours to develop to the extent seen in the last few seconds of the video. If she'd been hit by someone before the arrest, it wouldn't be anywhere near as apparent in the first hour or so. Plus, she was even holding a tissue to her face at the starting as if there was a prior injury.

I'm always amazed how supportive people here on Poly are when police behave like this.

There was a huge pool of blood there, there is no justification for that, period. The police have absolutely no right to injure someone in such a way because they "don't listen". If the officer is in danger then they can respond with force. They can't just beat the tar out of someone because they are annoyed.

The officer/officers involved in this beating and lying on the reports shouldn't just be fired, they should be arrested for assault and sent to jail.
