A little story from a few years back...

Liberal Democrats in Congress wanted a luxury tax...and yachts were targeted... They got their tax (before the GOP took the House in '94 I believe), and a year or 3 later they were asking to exempt yachts built in New England. Why? Because people were losing their jobs in the boat building industry. Hooray for the luxury tax!

Education should be the absolute last thing any government cuts. That really is the future right there so if they piss on education they're pissing in America's future.

If you knew a thing about California then you'd know that in the 1970's they made it so any tax increase needed a super majority approval (2/3rds) to pass. Even if Republicans control just 1/3 of the seats then they can block all sorts of stuff.

That's why education gets cut so that millionaires still get tax free yachts.

The same argument could be made for cars or just about anything else. Bottom line the budget still needs to be balanced and anything is better then cutting education.

Every tax is going to take jobs away. That's not a good reason to not have a tax on something.

              Yeah, taxes destroy jobs

How much do they shell out for illegals?

I'm not much into social engineering but I'd think our boatbuilding industry is more important than alot of things we're wasting money on.

But what does the history I've posted tell you? If the Dems get their way it'll cost jobs and a few years from now alot of them will be asking for relief from the tax. These political games hurt business, people need some stability and not have their lively hoods thrown to the winds of political partisanship and public opinion.

Well maybe if CA didn't overspend, they wouldn't have to cut education.

Oh, right, like education. That's brillliant.

The tax should never have been exempt in the first place. It's as bad as a subsidy.

hell, if yachts are really tax free that aint fair to other businesses. I thought this was about an additional tax but if its just leveling the playing field thats no biggie. Sounds like some political BS went on to keep yachts tax free in the first place.

Just do away with education, let the Cali kids learn sailing from their fathers and continue to let the Mexicans do the work.

No, not really. More likely it discourages job growth but it is a balancing act. Education, roads, railroads, and other development also create jobs but cost money. Repugs deliberately ignore that fact.

If they got their way no one would pay any taxes and America would look like Somalia were there are no schools, no laws, no government, just survival of who has the most gunmen.

There's a simple solution to this problem, Oerdin. CA could get rid of the Balanced Budget requirement which would get rid of the need to make cuts.

It's a lot simpler not to give rich people tax cuts.

Somehow I don't think that would make up for CA's overspending wrt its income.

You could answer my pop quiz if you wish to argue otherwise.

Education is about a third of the budget. You see you couldn't balance the budget either. It's much easier just to complain.
