Remember we arent talking about the reporting aspect of jounalism, we are talking about their ability to influence.

For example we want journalists to post news about Barack Obama, but if one posted that he was a muslim extremist with links to terrorists we would all agree that they were using their influence in an unethical way.

If you dont think journalists influence public opinion, then you may be underestimating their power.
Well, your "good start" would probably offend people, but that joke is also used about lawyers - haven't seen them going bezerk on that behalf.

The second, well I guess that most KKK members will take it seriously, but the real problem is that it wouldn't be printed because it doesn't make any sense.

No, you are wrong - this is not a matter of journalistic influence - it's a matter of reporting. Are journalists allowed to comment - even with cartoons - on religious matters.

Your example with BO doesn't make any sense - any journalist that couldn't back such a claim up with facts would be shot down and deserve it. Actually, why do you blend false accusations into this debate ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Bull****, but...no, still bull****. Can you prove the point? If not, then don't print it, if you can then fair dues.

Can you prove the picture of mohammad with a bomb in his turban? Or is it slander that muslims are terrorists? Isnt that false accusation?

I dont think being able to prove something is true is the qualifier. It certainly doesnt apply to political cartoons.

You have seriously missed the point about that drawing.

This thread has been done before. For the sake of exercise we should try something different.

Pretend that this is a, say... OT of the Kairo Chess Forum. We're debating this cartoon issue, but from the perspective of Kairo muslims.

So, I'm Abdul, a somewhat pinko librul Arab. What would be my position?

Abdul: Look guys, these images are insulting Muhamed, PBUH, and it goes without saying that any person that does that deserves death. BUT. There is a but. These Danes simply don't know what they are doing. Normally, unfamiliarity with the law is not an excuse for breaking the law, however, permit me an example. Do you kill a child because he or she commits a crime? Of course not. I am ready to make a case that Western civilization is in its moral infancy, and that for that reason we do not have the right to sentence to death people who draw cartoons of the Prophet, PBUH.

So, anyone want to debate me? You, Ishmael? No? Hassan? Ibrahim? Nobody? Am I good or what?

I'm not afraid of you. I just don't feel like wasting my time. Anyone who would make such a comparision is never going to give up. I'm too lazy.

Oh, and - the cartoons were just reprinted in various Danish newspapers.

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Iran doesn't like it and called for a meeting with the Danish ambassador (that's not in the BBC one, read it in a German article).
