In essence I'd agree with your sober assessment, like it was silly to consider the US dollar/Canuck dollar parity as anything truly meaningful. If anything, this story indicates the pragmatism that made NYC a great city. However, when euro bills and coins get accepted in (some of the) stores of the prime city of the US, it says something about the currency's credibility.
