  • Is there anything good about Christian economic theory?

I was watching the 700 club this morning and they were saying that if you give to God, he will give back to you many times over. Nice theory for our economic problems.

No, seriously though. What would God (the Church) do with it during this time to fix the economy. Anyone know more about this?

Why were you watching the 700 club?

    THAT is the real question.

    ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

      Prosperity Gospel isn't mainstream.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I didn't want to ruin the thread by giving all that answers away but there was a awesome story about how they helped a poor family in the 3rd world get on their feet.

I don't think of Christians as my enemy, only Christianity.

I didn't mean Christians in general were your enemies, Kid. The 700 club, however...

Is there anything good about Christian economic theory?

Yes, there is: it's not communist economic theory.

Seriously, though, this isn't an economic theory, it's just a single bland personal assurance. I was expecting some rant about how everyone trying to sell everything they had and giving to the poor would cause chaos and yadda yadda yadda. I'm so disappointed.

Replace God with oppressive tyrant and you get communism. You should be all about it

They are normally talking about charity, not a government economic policy.

Oh sorry, I forgot that there aren't any theories in the Bible. Only facts.

But if you get a good return on your charity that's an investment.

Yes, and the investment is for good things actually, not just so that rich Christians can have more shares of Microsoft.
