You didn't find the joke funny because you don't understand irony.

I didn't find the joke funny because it was a bit trite.

It would have been ironic if Iran was a peacemonger. Recent events how it's not so likely...

        1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
        Wouldn't that be sarcasm?...

I always wondered what the meaning of sardonic was, could you site an example of something sardonic.
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

MrFun, who is not funny or fun, is ironic

MrFun calling Asher too gay, is sarcasm

Asher getting mad at MrFun for calling him too gay is trite

Mr. Bush calling someone a threat to world peace is a miracle, as I didn't think monkeys could talk.

A guy, who himself started a war in another country, calling a nation a "threat to world peace" is ironic. It's the situation that's ironic. Bush doesn't have to be ironic on purpose for it to count as irony.

That said, and having just looked up the word, I agree the joke was trite.

Now, does this count as being sarcastic or sardonic?

                          Or neither?
