I asked my mom and she said that all the restrictions were lifted in rural Ohio about 5 decades ago, as best she could remember.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Except for liquor, which was only lifted a few years ago. There's also apparently 19 states that still don't allow liquor sales on Sunday."The French caused the war [Persian Gulf war, 1991]" - Ned

Pretty much identical reasoning behind liquor stores not being allowed to open and other shopping venues. I'm not sure why you find it so foreign."The French caused the war [Persian Gulf war, 1991]" - Ned

No, the reasoning is different and has to do with maintenance of public order. Washington heavily regulates beer and liquor sales otherwise. F.e., you can't sell 40s or singles in some neighborhoods and liquor sales in stores cease after a certain time. Beer and liquor sales take a separate license that is vetted by the liquor control board and advisory neighborhood commissions, etc.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. I've known 24/7/365 my whole life too which is why I found it so weird that so many southern states have shops closed on Sunday or won't sell liquor on Sunday. Religion enforced by the state.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Just because what and how liquor is sold is regulated doesn't mean that the rationale to not allow it to be sold at all on Sunday - and only Sunday - is any different from not allowing hats or dishware to be sold on Sunday. Or do you think there's a greater concern for public order if you can buy a six pack on Sunday than if you buy it on Monday?"The French caused the war [Persian Gulf war, 1991]" - Ned

Where I grew up in Ohio, you can't sell beer or alcohol any day of the week.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. As I said gas station shops are (in contrast to other shops) allowed to be open on sundays. Well, a large percentage of the goods they offer consists of alcoholic beverage, which is why on sundays for many people the gas station shops are their prime supplier of booze
Therefore one could say, of the goods that are sold on sundays in germany gas and booze take up the largest percentageTamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

I think Californians would riot if some politician tried to tell them they couldn't shop or buy booze on a Sunday. Progress.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
