I don't want to become politically involved with abortion rights issues simply because to do so in concert with others almost automatically means endorsing an extreme position. I'm very uncomfortable with second trimester abortions and cannot accept the legality of third trimester abortions but I have little to no reservations about earlier abortions and am dead set against making first trimester abortions illegal. In fact I think in some circumstances it may even be acceptable to use tax dollars for 1st trimester abortions. I doubt I'd find any march to participate in with such a nuanced stance on the issue.

People joking about being pro-abortion creep me out way more than the most extreme anti-abortion fundies though.

I attended a pro-choice march once where one of the scheduled speakers gave this spoken word poem thing describing how good it feels to have an abortion. How chopping up the fetus and draining its brains was an orgasmic experience.

      It was absolutely revolting.

I could probably be in favor of govenment (tax) dollars for first 4 weeks.. and pretty unrestricted (how things are currently) for the rest of the first trimester. But I would also want partial birth abortions (all 3rd trimester abortions, really) to be considered in the same light as doing a seperation of siamese twins (where ones dies) and heavy restrictions on on 2nd trimester abortions.

            Seriously.
Abortion usually means one of the following things:
            1) the woman is a cold-hearted female dog who doesn't want a child.
            2) the pregnancy was the result of an unwanted sexual contact.
            3) the pregnancy resulted from teenage experimentation.

I seriously disapprove of abortion in case 1, but I whether to terminate the pregnancy should never be a legal question. It should be a moral question. Let the woman herself decide, not the state.
In case 3 abortion is a viable solution, but proper sexual education is an even better solution that nips the problem in the bud rather than mops up the consequences.
Case 2 is a complex one. But still, the problem lies in rape, not abortion.

I don't like abortion. But I'd rather see a world where women can, but don't, than one where they can't, but do.

Absolutely! What is this a police state!!??? Is that where you get the crazy idea of the state telling her not to vote???

Once she becomes an adult she should be free to do what she wants within reason.

As for the state it should butt out as much as possible except maybe providing information so that people can make an informed opinion about their life choices.

                Yes.

                ...vote...
No. I think she (like most people, regardless of age) is probably too dumb to do this competently.

                ...drive a car...
Yes, so long as she agrees to abide by certain standards that encourage safe driving.

...and leave school without the state telling her not to do so?
                Yes.

Geez, Moby, you're thick. B etor has been telling us all along that she's NOT AN ADULT, she's sixteen or so (or else a fifty yo FBI agent, yadda yadda)...

Yes, we all know she's 16. What is your point?

"She" in this context refers to b etor. Your response:

Given Ozzy's obsession with youth rights it should be obvious that he's talking about right now. You made a minor oversight! Oh, what an incredibly stupid person you are! I am ashamed to be on the same planet as you, you are so stupid! You should be burned alive and your cremains used to feed earthworms!

But Ozzy never talks about "once she becomes an adult." It should have been clear from context. Ergo you're a big stupid doodyhead. If this is getting tiresome, by all means leave the forum. Nobody will miss you. At least I won't.

People who refer to women in this way are scum.
