    USA without planet Earth - with a twist

    I know, I know , this could be considered a copycat thread, but the other was really like playing SMAC/X on citicen level, so here it goes :

    So in the blink of an eye the United States of America as it exists right now is placed on a imaginary Earth where humans have been extinct since the late stone age. To the Americans it seems like every country in the world has instantly reverted to a pristine natural state without any infrastructure or population and with undepleted resources. They have no instant explanation, but assume that with a few months of research they could realize they were dropped off on a alternative Earth.


    The consequences should be very interesting.
    and then the twist(s) :

    In the process USA looses all knowledgede of space travel - actually, it's common knowledge that the earth ends not far from the coast and wich is proven by the holy edicts of the president.

    Further, Al Quaeda, survives in afghanistan with full knowledge of science and the existence of their most hated enmy, but of course without any production capability except what is available in their terroritory.

    Last, US first learns about the rest of the world when AQ reaches the shores of america.

    I won't claim that this is transcend level, just librairan , so, ladies and gentlemen, please let the game start

    But that's able to be proven false with very basic math and science. Would such knowledge also be eliminated? What would happen to people who were in NASA and crap? What about chartographers and stuffs?

      If you can remove more than 6 bill people and traces of them, this little trick shouldn't be that problematic .

        Well, my point is that the societal impacts of changing America to not realizing this would make America extraordinarily unlike America as we know it today.

        So, we need to better define what the hell this new America is before we can figure out what would happen.

          So 300 million Americans are left alone on the new planet with a few thousand Al Qaeda? OK, that means there's no one left to protest if the Americans unleash an organization remarkably similar to the KKK on Al Qaeda and treat them with the same kindness and respect we treated the Cherokee, Shawnee, Choctaw, Seminoles, Apache, Sioux, etc., etc., etc.?

              Oh, the rest of the world just dissapearing is not extraordinary for yankies ? How come that I have an uncanny feeling that this is old news ?

                This is also citizen level. There's hardly a challenge doing something in an empty world with a big developed country like the USA.

                Take Denmark and do something with it would be a bigger challenge (and it is even today ).

                But a reall test of ability would be to take a single city or village. This type of plot where a modern place is teleported far back into past is usually called "island in the sea of time" and is moderately popular science fiction subgenre. Of that I've read 1632, and it's a good read.

                  If I ever has claimed that poly posters are intelligent, then let me hereby recall that.

                  US is almost alone in the world - only opponent is AQ in afghanistan - due to the transition us citizens looses every knowledge of the rest of the worlld and religious government enforces the belief that us is all that exist - this belief can only be broken when AQ reaches US.

                  About the credibility, well, some claims that I-35 is a holy road, so why not the area sorrounding ? Say somebody claims that us is the holy land and that even theorising about something outside is considered unholy ?

                      Also, everyone in the USA is now left-handed and everyone in Al-qaeda is right-handed.

                      Al-qaeda can use telepathy to read the minds of the Americans.

                      Oh, and Great Britain is there, but they don't know that America is there.

                      In about 25 years, Putin will appear with God-like powers.

                          I'm not saying it isn't. It's just hard to guage how America itself would react because America would be so radically altered! The existance of other nations is a point so pervasive and needed in everyday life.

                          I mean imagine a aluminum manufacturer, where the hell is he gonna get his bauxite?

                          Where are we going to get our oil?

                          How is this religious government going to explain the simultaneous collapse of the economy?

                          Why wouldn't anyone figure out that Earth is in fact much bigger using newtonian gravity and two sundials?

                          The before hypothetical questions at least dealt with known alterations. We know what America/The rest of the world is currently like and was like millenia ago. This hypothetical question deals with some bizzare crazy America that bares only similar geography to that we know today but the people would be utterly altered to the point of almost unrecognizeability.
