US is almost alone in the world - only opponent is AQ in afghanistan - due to the transition us citizens looses every knowledge of the rest of the worlld and religious government enforces the belief that us is all that exist - this belief can only be broken when AQ reaches US.
I think you're the only one that thinks AQ would be some sort of threat to the US in a world without international air traffic and oil money.

AQ aren't capable of maintaining any level of technological civilization above stone age, which is fitting because that is where Afghanistan of today is. How do you imagine AQ getting to US shores? Triremes? Can't go further than a couple of tiles.

Well, if almost the rest of the world dissapears, why shouldn't us be at least altered a bit ?

I mean imagine a aluminum manufacturer, where the hell is he gonna get his bauxite?

Where are we going to get our oil?
This must be considered the "**** happens" factor - those companies goes bankrupcy if they don't find suppliers - guess that it's a part of the "what if" concept.

How is th/is religious government going to explain the simultaneous collapse of the economy?

Gods punishment of the evil ?

Why wouldn't anyone figure out that Earth is in fact much bigger using newtonian gravity and two sundials?
Shurely many will do that, but either they stay silent or they are executed for heresy.

The before hypothetical questions at least dealt with known alterations. We know what America/The rest of the world is currently like and was like millenia ago. This hypothetical question deals with some bizzare crazy America that bares only similar geography to that we know today but the people would be utterly altered to the point of almost unrecognizeability.
Yeah, known alterations such as the rest of the world magically disappears

Wetty, you are actually the first to give a meaningfull answer even if it's not that sensible, but what the heck - a to you

After breeding up for a dozen generations, AQ will have long forgotten their old grudge. The USA will just be some kind of mythical enemy.

Meanwhile, Allah will come along and be like "What the hell? Where has Mecca gone?!! I'm blaming Bush!" and then Allah will nuke USA from orbit.

            AQ wins!

Sorry, but using the "blame bush" argument is a try to implement the godwin argument - doesn't count

We're not talking about "a bit". We're talking about everything. History, religion, economics, every single thing would be massively changed. And in the other threads it wasn't altered (at least not the instant the rest of the world/America dissappeared)

Well, the thing is bauxite isn't mined here at all, so the people who would be refining the stuff would have to have thier memories altered somehow. But how would they be altered? Maybe they would imagine having them come from somewhere else, but where? Would we just lose all evidence of aluminum and everything made of aluminum suddenly be transfigured into something else? If so, what? Maybe we'd just blank out the memories of everyone and leave them to figure out what happened, but they'd get all suspicious.

So the members of this new religion that everyone believes in will be completely incapable of being reasoned with? the religious right is one thing, but this ain't America as I know it!

Yeah, we know almost exactly what happens at that moment ith those other threads, here we don't. We don't know how peoples memories, the geography, the infrastructure, and recorded data are altered in America!

Fishermen would take to the sea and follow the catch. Some would feel the spirit of adventure and head out upon the seas, not giving a rats ass what the president says. They would find new lands and colonize them, eventually meeting their unknown enemy who would attack them. Our boys don't put up with that crap, so we would bring our numbers to bear and eventually wipe them out, losing some of ours in the process. Then, the world would be perfect, except can the Philippines be spared also? I'd really appreciate it.

AQ will have enough to do with building up infrastructure and settling the vast realms of Eurasia and the near east (I hope for them that there are enough women among the followers of AQ that are transferred to the new earth) and establishing a caliphate there, with the law of the Sharia in force.
It might be centuries till they meet the US and when they do, it will be easy for them to use fire and sword to convert the american heathens to the true faith of islam (especially considering their technological superority).

But who knows, as we´re talking about generations it might very probable that within a few generations of prosperity (considering the vast free space they have available to settle and the vast amount of natual resoruces they can utilize) the fubndamentalist society of AQ is replaced by a more secular society (either similar to the muslim caliphates during te medieval toime or even much more secular, like the christian society in the western industrialized nations today) so that, when the offspring of AQ finally reach america they might even tolerate the belief of the savages there and use the american continent (north + south america as the americans will probably have spread there, too) as a huge reservate for the american population.

AQ only hates the US because of involvement in the NME and presence in Saudi Arabia in particular. If AQ is isolated in Afg they have no reason to hate the US.

AQ nuts realize they are alone in the world, hike to Arabia, can't find the Ka'aba, and realize their religion is full of crap.

                            End of story.
