It's getting almost hysterical, it is claimed that 75% of all Austrians fear that the Schengen expansion will lead to an increase in crime. I hate my xenophobic co-patriots.
Don't be that harsh on them. Frankly I think there may be increase in crime. Simply because not all immigrants will find legal jobs, and some will turn to crime. Also, it is probably more rewarding to rob houses in Cottsbus than in Jelenia Gora (Eichelberg?). I think there's nothing wrong in discussing this problem, You just have to be realistic about it.

As if passport controls had been a good tool to intercept robbers from Poland or Hungary from coming... If anything, SIS will also allow "eastern" authorities to make efficient dragnet controls.
Illegal immigration from outside EU will now be intercepted farther away, which should, if not help to decrease, at least not increase immigration from there to Austria.
And Schengen has nothing to do with residence permits - I fully understand that immigrants without jobs are more likely to fall into crime.

I'm not against discussion, I'm against painting black on purpose and misleading people..
