But A Christmas Story is early 80s .

OK, so two exceptions: National Lampoon, and A Christmas Story. But even those two aren't on the same level of Charlie Brown, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, etc. Those 70's TV specials are just so goddamned red-blooded American

Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Yes, George C. Scott was magnificent as Scrooge. How could he not be?

Perhaps to you, but I consider "A Christmas Story" to be the greatest Christmas movie of all time... I'd also put two others, after 70s movies, up for great Christmas movies as well:

              "Scrooged" (with Bill Murray)
              "Elf" (with Will Farrell)

Will put up more later if I think of them.

Scrooged was a good, but had a few slow/weak scenes.

But the evil me just like all the fake violent programs the network wanted to air. Those seemed better . But it was a sweet ending. You'd have to be satan himself not to think the ending was nice.

Instead of looking at all the pretty lights and colors of the season all I can see is the commercial aspect and how we are guilted into buying presents even to the detriment of our bank accounts and presents for people we don't really care about because its' the "PC" thing to do.

One would think since I recently became the mother of a two year old that the wonder of Christmas would seep in, and it has to a certain extent. When she says Santa it's always with wonder and excitment and over the last week or two the Scrooginess seems to be going away. I used to love Christmas and love the presents etc.... now I don't want presents, I just want everyone to be together, happy and healthy and enjoying our time together. Family keeps asking what do you want for Christmas. Nothing really cause anything I really want I can go out and buy myself.

I guess I want to know at what point does it stop being magical. I don't want to be Scrooge! Help Tia find some Christmas spirit!
The job I have until I find a full-time community college teaching position somewhere is in retail (a Super Target).

Believe me, I understand what you're saying! Every holiday shopping season I have worked there, it has challenged me to remember why I think Christmas is important. Dealing with incosiderate, obnoxious customers who think Christmas is time of year to treat others like ****, dealing with overly-materialistic customers who spend $400+ on just two children, dealing with some other workers who project their increased work stress in negative ways onto others, and so forth.

In spite of all of this, I remain determined to hold onto why I, myself, treasure Christmas; the remembering of the birth of Jesus Christ, and the warmth and love shared with family and friends.

Speaking of family and friends, the upper part of eastern Iowa got some AWFUL weather last night and so I'm unable to drive up to there to be with my own family before Christmas; we are rescheduling for Dec. 30. But, tomorrow, my friend and I are going out to his dad's in one of the Chicago suburbs; I'm looking forward that . . . .

as long as that doesn't get canceled too.

The things that help me remember why I treasure Christmas include being an active member of a church, listening to Christmas music, spending time with family and friends (in person, or on phone), and enjoying the beauty of winter in however it presents itself.

Seems some higher power is swirling things around for me. Was really missing my father this year and yesterday my Step-mother says you know what I'm just going to come down there for Christmas and stay with my brother. So she drove 4 hours and got here yesterday. We always had lukefisk on Christmas Eve and she brought all the stuff to make it for us here. My daughter who has been gone for over 4 months, leaving us to raise her daughter, suddenly at midnight showed up on our doorstep. She somehow got enough money together for a bus ticket and has come home for Christmas and hopefully for good. Looks like Christmas spirit and mircles are alive and well in the Buckingham household this year!

                            God Bless us all.....everyone
Welcome to earth, my name is Tia and I'll be your tour guide for this trip.
