Thanks Lord. Steve said the same thing the other night. That we do it because it's our way, tradition. It's our family tradition and we are carrying it on. I happen to have had a wonderful childhood and really good memories of Christmas, especially when we lived in Germany. I think it's about wanting to be home and with family and the sights and smells and just the general feeling of warmth and comfort and love. Plus the fact that the food is awesome and the smells.........Ahhhhhhhh there just wonderful.

Just read that and as us old timers say here in Texas......"well I'll swan." Maybe there is a little holiday spirit in me after all. You know and even though it means spending extra money that could stay in the bank and help with bills and taxes, sometimes maybe it is important to give to the ones you love who mean the most just to let them know hey, I may not show it all year long or think about it but I do love you and appreciate you. Christ was about love and peace and bringing people together in the name of love even his enemys.

DanS, just wait you'll be here one day. Small consolation for me but I'll take it

I hate having to help set up Christmas trees and lights. I'm considering just saying I'm Jewish so I don't have to.

christmas is more about going through the motions for me. The days of getting excited about christmas are long gone. Only when I was a kid.

It's good to spend time with family. That's all I care about. Religious or commercial aspects mean nothing to me.

You'd rather have your foreskin cut off? Maybe it would be easier just to consider atheism...

Or hire someone to put the lights up for you.

If I did that, I wouldn't be able to receive a bag of Jew gold.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

My parents get more excited about christmas now than I do.

It doesn't help that I just took a course all about the evils of commercialism.

Screw the lights, the carols, whatever. Have yourself a big hunk of roast beef for Xmas dinner, preferably with lovely fat-filled Yorkshire Puddings. It's what we do. Shop online as much as possible, to avoid exposure to soul-killing holiday-time malls with their tedious recorded jingle bell jingles and enormous crowds. Go to church, or if you're not religious meditate on whatever you think the meaning of the holiday is (I can't imagine what). Scorn office parties, secret Santa BS, and all other obligatory "funtime" activities. And don't watch any Christmas special produced after the early seventies. In fact, just skip everything but "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," the Boris Karloff original from 1966, I mean.

Christmas is good as long as it is about family and freinds and Christ (or just the first two if you aren't Christian).

                            I feel old too and I'm 19.

The only thing giving me any positive feelings about Christmas, is my 2 year-old adorable sister, that I only get to see during the holidays. It is a family holiday try to spin it that way. It’s childish and silly but it works because our brains are hardwired to love our kids.

"A Christmas Story" kicks ass!! "You'll shoot your eye out" .

                                And I liked "Elf".
