I think they are going to talk about the White Council drivign the Necromancer out of the Mirkwood.

    It would seem.

Thus, making stuff up it is

I wonder if they ever dare to put the Silmarillion on screen.

Considering that they plan to make 2 films out of "The Hobbit", the Silmarillion could give stuff for 10 or more movies

Just a wild speculation, but maybe they think another ca. 3hrs thing isn't what the audience wants, so they make it in two parts, and get more money out of it.

                      What did they add?

I agree with everyone that it is surprising that they intend to stretch the Hobbit to two flims, though. One should be enough.

                      It must be the moolah.

Arwen (she shows up for a 1/4 page or something in the books), the ghost army, most of the stuff with Faramir/anything happening in Osgiliath...

The funny thing is they cut out whole portions of the story while adding stuff that added nothing and changed the story quite a bit.

I can't even guess where they'll put the break in the story. Will he divide it into "There" and "Back Again?" No, even he couldn't pad out the epilogue that much. Maybe around the time they reunite following the adventure in the Misty Mts?

Theres some stuff from the Silm that could fill in on the necromancer-Mirkwood plot, IIRC.

When they make that movie they can feel free to include it.

If I had to divide the book, I would do it in the wood elves hall. Isn't Bilbo supposed to be trapped there for a month or so anyways? Well in this case he will be trapped there for a year between releases.
