After having watched an extensive number of Doctor Who episodes lately I've pondered the significance of the doctors companions. In the beginning they're mostly there for screaming and getting in trouble, but in the 70's they began to be something more than just pretty appendixes to the doctor. So who's your favourite?

Rose Tyler gets my vote, though I do admit to having seen only a smattering of episodes from the original run.
I see you're not included one-time companions -- at least for the 2005-to-present incarnation (didn't check the others) -- and that's understandable. I am interested to see '06 Christmas Special's Donna Noble again as that character is to return regularly next season from what I have read; I believe she has the potential to be even better than Rose ultimately.PolyCast Co-Host, Owner and Producer: entertaining | informing civ

I think my favourite is Leela. She's a sexy, fiercely independent savage. She's not squeamish or helpless in any kind. She doesn't scream or run away. In fact she's the exact opposite of what every companion was before her. And she looks damn good in that leather leotard

No I've focused on 70's companions and forward. There's a handful of one-time companions and almost-companions (such as Jack Harkness) that I left out. But Captain Jack is definitely my favourite male companion (ehrm...) Donna Noble has a lot of potential, she sure is forceful and doesn't take no for an answer!Originally posted by DanQ
