I don't think anyone should waterboard POWs.

Terrorists are a different matter - personally, I say use whatever method is effective, whether that means asking nicely, waterboarding, kneecapping, or anything else.

That is also a good point. Captured American soldiers are unquestionably POWs.

Captured terrorists/insurgents most definetly aren't. Depending on their dress and tactics, most are elegable for execution actually.

Usually western prisoners get their heads cut off, I'd take waterboarding every day of the week.

          And a terrorist is...?

Let's start with anyone who participated in 9/11, helped plan 9/11, or knew anything about it and failed to either report it or otherwise act to stop it.

Let's also include suicide bombers - you know, people who strap bombs to themselves, walk into heavily populated areas, and blow themselves up, along with dozens of innocent people.

Hard to waterboard them at this point...

And do we need proof for these individuals?

Well, nobody is a suicide bomber until he, well, straps a bomb to himself. You'd have to resort to potential suicide bombers. You know, these people with that strange, unamerican look and accent...

Some guys are into that. You guys do realize waterboarding just plays to the repressed domination fantasies of all these uptight fundie Muslims, right?

We are doing them a favor. They LIKE it.

You asked me to define terrorists.

Also, I think anyone planning such things get included in the definition.

And do we need proof for these individuals?
Are you confusing me with someone who actually supports the War on Terror, as it is currently being conducted?

Sure, we need proof, but proof is never 100% accurate. We execute people in this country on less than 100% accuracy, not to mention all the people we put in prison who COULD be innocent.

Put another way, if US soldiers enter a village in Afghanistan, and 19 people from the village independently point their finger at one or two people as being Al Qaeda, assuming the accusers are credible and don't have an obvious ax to grind I would have no problem with us acting on that intel.

Again, I'm not a moron. I was asked to define who a terrorist is.

As to "potential suicide bombers", I believe I stated my views in another thread as to how to counteract the spread of militant Islam, and it WASN'T through mass torture.

However, if a squad of US soldiers kicks in a door and catches a group of people prepping a suicide attack, then I think torturing each and every one of those people is more than appropriate, if not necessary an effective deterrant.
