anyways, I didn't cut back until I left the navy. I'm one of those suckers who fall for peer pressure, and didn't like to be called a wuss if I didn't drink alot. So I tried to keep up with my buddies. Thing is, when I was in Norfolk, I lived with 2 guys who were well on their way to becoming alcoholics. I never could keep up with them, but I tried to make it respectable.

Anyways I'm away from that lifestyle now.

I started drinking a lot when i was exactly 21 years old. I finished drinking a lot when I was about 21 years and 1 day old.

I drank fairly heavily between fall of 2003 (before turning 23) and fall of 2005 (before turning 25). I hadn't even had one drink before I turned 22. I started cutting back because I wanted to get more serious about my studies. This continued until the start of 2006, when I stopped drinking at all to focus on my experiment.

When my experiment stopped at the end of spring, I started drinking again.. but much more rarely. Also, I drank a lot less than I had before, even more rarely getting drunk. Some of it was because I was still studying. Some of it was that I longer wished to drink as much. Some of it was that I wanted to get healthy.. and drinking a lot is bad for your health (makes you fat, wears a lot on your body, bad for your kidneys).

A doctor told me last week that someone my size shouldn't have more than 2 drinks at a time (in a given day).

Most recently, this year in fact, I started thinking that it was a sin to get drunk. Partly because of this, I haven't been very drunk this year, and have only been drunk at most a couple of times (and those where probably just a bit over the legal limit, and I was stopping before I thought I was drunk).

During my heavy drinking stage I drank like Krill (10ish drinks a night, 3ish nights a week).

I am considering not going over 2 drinks for the future.

I drank pretty much till I was about 30. After this I severely reduced it. Today I am almost completely dry.

I'm basically in the piss-artist camp, I'm afraid. wrt to the OP - it's not really something you 'grow out of' if you enjoy it and don't have too many negative effects (nausea, hangovers, embarrasing & confrontational behaviour). I generally manage to avoid most of these.

I didn't drink much when I was younger - it was something I started to enjoy later on. Old-age is over-rated anyway, IMO.

Early 20's. Alcohol was killing me. My total consumption now is less than 10 drinks a year.

I switched to a nicer drug.
