My mum worked on a sliding scale of reaction for my grades:
A+ = pride
A = approval
A- = less approval
B's = raised eyebrow of "you can do better"
C's = "What the hell? Work harder"
anything below = I'd be safer working with unusually aggressive lions while wearing a suit made from juicy succulent ham than having to tell my mum my grade.
All this has made me a neurotic Ph.D. student driven by my own fear of failure and unable to relate to any success outside of a standardises system of marking.Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Also, when I was at Durham Uni, I would have KILLED to get an 80.
To give a sense of perspective, most of my grades were in the 60s and I got a 2:i (the equivalent of a B or B+ in the UK system).
70s were As."lol internet" ~ AAHZComment
