          The Big Country.

"All I can say, McKay, is you take a helluva long time to say good-bye."

Charlton Heston to Gregory Peck while resting after 10 minutes of fist-fighting. The fight goes on for about another 5 minutes.

Burl Ives is excellent in the movie as well.

          ACK!

            Support You Local Sheriff!

Jason McCullough: Well, do you see anything?
Jake: No. What are we lookin' for?
Jason McCullough: What are we lookin' for? We're lookin' for nuggets, a vein, the mother lode!
            Jake: What's the mother lode?
Jason McCullough: I'm beginning to get the horrible feelin' you know even less about gold mining than I do, Jake.
Jake: Course I don't know anything about gold mining!
Jason McCullough: Well, what do you think I brought you along for? I thought everyone around here knew about mining.
Jake: Well I don't! I might be able to give you a few tips about shoveling horse... working around the stable, but I don't know nothing about huntin' gold.

[Jake comes in the sheriff's office]
Pa Danby: What's he supposed to be?
Jason McCullough: Well, that's my deputy.
Pa Danby: Why last week he was shovelin' horse... he was workin' in the stable.
Jason McCullough: Well, he's been promoted.

Jake: You want me to tell Joe Danby that he's under arrest for murder? What're you gonna do after he kills me?
Jason McCullough: Then I'll arrest him for both murders.

Pa Danby: If that gun had gone off, it'd of blowed right up in my face.
Jason McCullough: Now it wouldn't have done my finger a hell of a lot of good either, would it? What can I do for you, Mr. Danby?

            Very funny movie.

The Wild Wild West, television series not movie.

James West and Artemus Gordon are great complimentary heroes.

Dr Miguelito Loveless is one of the great villians in television history.
Yes, negotiations could take some time.

Firefly only lasted part of one season (there are 11 episodes, but only 8 aired initially, and not in order). It was sci fi with a western feel to it. The movie Serenity takes place after the series.

Why is it that most newer westerns suck, if they make any at all? One from the "recent" yrs (well, it's from the 1990ies) that was fun to watch was "The quick and the dead" (IIRC that was the title) with Hackman, Stone, Crowe and di Caprio but overall the genre seems to be pretty much dead.

Most of the older ones sucked to. We were just too unsophisticated enough to realize it.

For comedies, there's Evil Roy Slade.

The story opens with an explanation of how, when he was a baby, Evil Roy Slade's parents were killed in an Indian attack, but how sometimes Indians would adopt surviving children into the tribe. The Indians look inside the wagon and run off. Then there's a explanation of how sometimes wolves would raise human infants as their own. Wolves look into the wagon and run off.

Next scene is 25 years later. John Astin is wearing nothing but a diaper, carrying a teddy bear, and wandering across the desert.

I did like the quick in the dead a little bit. Stone was a little out of her league, but did a respectable job.

And I admit to liking young guns. It was designed for us younger generation, but was a good flick. They did a lot of things right.

I remember a couple years ago a movie came out which appeared to be a blatant ripoff of young guns, but with no name actors and even more shameless pandering to the younger generation. That thing never came close to turning a profit and fell off the radar pretty fast. I don't even remember the name of it.

Jason McCullough: He strikes me as a lonely man.
                            Jake: Who? Danby?! He's a no-good, low-down, dirty bushwacker!
Jason McCullough: You see? No wonder he's lonely.
