  • I'm told that I might like them if they were raw. Consistency and odor are 2 things that keep me away from them.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

    • I like most veggies. I haven't had beets recently, so I'm not sure about them. Okay is wonderful, it just needs to be properly prepared. Fried or pickled it isn't slimy. Hot okra pickles beat cucumber pickles. as for slimy, you want it to be slimy if you add it to soup, because it thickens the soup (which doesn't feel slimy at all). Love all cabbage based veggies (Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, etc). I don't like Lima beans.

Of course, everything needs to be cooked properly.

Barley is a grain, not a veggie.

          Same for me.

I enjoy just about all, maybe with the exception of brussel sprouts.

            • Brussels sprouts with butter are awesome. I have a recipe to broil them with garlic I want to try.

              • Ok, so I read on wiki that brussel sprouts are very sensitive to overcooking and if they are overcooked release a sulfuric smell and taste and that's why people dislike.

                Maybe I'll try it again.

                    • When I was in the hospital, they dumped broccoli in with almost every meal. I didn't eat.
I mean, I didn't eat, period. Pissed off Nurse Brenda to no end.

I have this theory that people who hate vegetables have generally had them overcooked; raw and "al dente" veggies are vastly superior in taste and nutritional value, but most vegetables seem to get overcooked -- accounting for the smell and texture problem Sloww cites.

I LOVE carrots, green beans, onions, cabbage, and peppers of all sorts. And I'm fine with all veg except cauliflower, which I can't seem to develop a taste for except when it's a platform for Indian spices. But with some veg my taste is quirky: I love tomatoes, but am indifferent to tomato sauce and tomato juice (and tomato soup, unless it's the magical kind the Turks make); on the other hand, I'm generally indifferent to eggplant, but could eat baba ganoush three meals a day. Go figure.

                        • Tomato soup I can understand, as most commercial ones pump it full of HFCS and sodium.
