We can't successfully sue the US government. Mahar again is the prime example. He can't even get the US to admit they were wrong (again, surprise surprise).

So if he's both you send him to half way around the world to Syria where you know he will tortured rather than to the nation next door? Be proud.

I brought him up as an example in general. If you want to talk about him in specific go ahead. I'll post in the thread.

You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

FWIW, according to the Wiki on the subject you informed us that he was no longer a resident of your nation.

I think if this happens again gross negligence could work. They know they have a bug in the system and continue to **** with people.

^ that was my first thought.

How comfortable are we with a system to catch criminals if can't even eliminate suspects?

The same story in the Port Huron (US) news.

SARNIA- One couple is done with cross-border shopping after they were ordered from their car and handcuffed in front of their children by U.S. border officials.

Jeff and Kelly Thomas of Sarnia had crossed the Blue Water Bridge on Friday to do a little shopping in Michigan when they pulled up at an inspection booth around 5 p.m.

While a U.S. border official processed his identification, a security warning sounded, Jeff Thomas said.

"All of a sudden there was this ear-piercing alarm that went off," he said. "I looked over and saw 15 to 20 custom officers coming toward us."
The officers, with hands on guns, ordered Jeff Thomas to switch off the vehicle and place his hands on the steering wheel. He was ordered from the car, handcuffed, and taken into the U.S. Customs and Border Protection building, he said.

                          "I just froze," he said.

Meanwhile, his wife said she was handcuffed and taken into custody as their frightened children, Brandon, 14, and Mackenzie, 10, looked on.

"My daughter was crying. I remember Jeff's face just going gray. It was a horrible experience," Kelly Thomas said.

The Thomases said a few minutes later border agents removed the restraints and released them. They were told it was a case of mistaken identity and that Jeff Thomas' name and birth date were "similar" to someone wanted for a crime.

"There were no apologies. All we wanted to do was go to Target and pick up some early Christmas gifts," Kelly Thomas said.

The couple said the experience was humiliating. Traffic lanes essentially were closed during the incident as hundreds of motorists looked on. To add insult to injury, customs officials said the same thing might happen again if Jeff Thomas returns to Port Huron.

"It was really upsetting. (Kelly) was crying, my daughter was crying. It gets you angry," Jeff Thomas said.

He said when escorted back to their vehicle an inspection agent made small talk as though nothing had happened. The agent then presented a travelers' comment card that asks if their experience with Customs and Border Protection had been a good one.

The card also pledges the CBP will "cordially greet and welcome" travelers to the United States, treat visitors with "courtesy, dignity and respect" and "explain the CBP process to you."

"I have no plans on going back," Jeff Thomas said.

Repeated attempts to contact U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials for comment Monday and Tuesday were unsuccessful.

If they tried to make small talk with me after that I would likely blow my top in a very violent manner....

So what are we supposed to do. "hmmmm. Same name. Same birthday. But the haircut is different, and he has facial hair. Yep, not enough, let him through."

You can't have it both ways. Security means inconveniance.

You miss the point. The reaction was understandable. It was after the agents realised they were wrong that a simple apology should be issued. But that would mean they were wrong wouldn't it? Much better to pretend it was the Canadians fault.
